MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3)

Apparently also still in the source code (like the mouse pointer stuff) just not activated yet…it will come but probably didn’t fit naturally with the new arranger or something, or maybe they want to add a lot more…

Or they’re getting rid of the MPC style clips to introduce the Force style clips & clip matrix. Which would make sense now the the MPC as an arrangement. MIDI clips & a matrix to organize them seem like the next logical step.

Also there was this discovery for whatever it maybe about: MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3) - #364 by Poetic-Noise

Very strange. I’ll try to re-instal the plugin.
BTW, I noticed there is the internal SSD as a target disk for plugins, do you know if this is a problem?

I did some testing with the Audiotracks… i just recorded one pattern over and over again 45 minutes without any problems …
24bit, 44,1khz, ~750mb
during recording it is managed by the MPC’s internal memory … as soon as I hit stop, the file is saved immediately to my SSD

that’s good news

Frenzy about what? Clips’ removal? I haven’t really read much pushback over Clips not being present; unless I’ve missed it. But, that in itself is quite telling if it’s correct… I’d guess Clips is probably the least used Program in pre-MPC3.0 use; if you were a Clips fan you’d use something else (Force/Push, etc), and it doesn’t lend itself to 4x4 and being split over multiple programs (to use more than 4 simultaneously).

But, on the other hand, if Clips was to come back into play, and it was to be made part of the MPC 3.0 Software… that could signal a hybrid DAW containing MPC (Seqs/Tracks), Force (Clips) and the Linear Arranger.

There’s 2 things that MPC 3.0 Beta is making me excited about;

  • new hardware units (imagine there was a Maschine Jam type add on to an MPC to merge MPC/Force as hardware).
  • new MPC Software; I feel like I’m in the minority on this, but I really like MPC Software and use it a lot. It took a while for me to warm to it, but I got there and think it’s visually clunky, but works great.

you mean like some sort of DJ-software-mode? as another layer?

Not quite, I mean instead of their being a Force 2, Akai make it an MPC extension device.

I’m picturing the current Force 8x8 grid section, minus the risen section where the screen is… or look at the APC64 is close… that attaches to the new MPC and you can switch to a proper Clip mode.

Anyone running a hapax, cirklon, or Oxi one as a step sequencer for version 3.0?

Sorry that wasn’t a dig fella, probably should have engaged the filter there  I’m just getting a “sky is falling!” Vibe from a lot of the discussion that’s going on nowadays, it’s not just here but any where there’s an mpc thread, it’s why I’ve been keeping quiet lately, just trying to avoid all the supposition and hype, I’ve still got my hope up for a decent clip matrix implementation, I hope it’s similar setup to the current live control session view with all the clips viewable and triggers from the screen…

Curious about this too. I’ve got a pretty good step sequencing setup right now on 2.14 with my Cirklon using virtual usb ports and I’m wondering if that all still works as expected on 3.0.

Mine is installed on the sata drive (I have an old hdd there instead of ssd  #ghetto :joy:)

its is falling…upwards :+1:t5:. ya theres some shit that could be better. but im digging this so far. beta…shit will change. I wager for the better, tho its pretty alright in its WIP state.

If they’d allow the midi channel “send to” to be a per sequence automation destination it would provide a (not great, but still better than right now) hack for some of the most annoying stuff - especially building a live set.

Definitely also suspect that rather than going away completely, clips are in fact going to be much more of a deal in 3.0 when they return.

Can I ask if I’ll still be restricted to 8 sounds shared amongst 8 plugins for each project? Really hoping I can insert program changes, maybe in the list edit or the arranger, anything to break this limit would be great.

Thank you for posting. Was an interesting listen from a different perspective than the usuals.

That’s actually an idea I dig. Now I want my APC64 to link up with my Live2.

What I’m doing now is automating the parameters of a synth to make it work in different parts of a song. It’s a bit of work (I jump between the grid and the step sequencer to set sudden jump points for parameters because none of those paths are "ideal"and I wish it were a bit easier) but it does allow you to completely change a patch of the synth across parts of the song.

On a new song I’m working on, I do this with both Jura and Mellotron/Solina and it’s pretty cool to push beyond the 8 plugin limit.

Another way of doing it if I’m just looking for some ear candy material is to sample those sounds and phrases and put them on a sample/drum program instead. I find it pretty rare to hit the plugin limit when approaching them this way.

Fair enough. I was hoping it might have supported program changes for its own plugins by now. I may just continue using MIDI hardware synths instead since you can set new patches in every sequence that way without worrying about how many you’ve already used.

It could just be my imagination, but on the Force I find that sample edit processing go faster for those long samples if I set it to stream from disk first after I sample it.
