MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 3)

Dipped over to the MPC-Forum to try and get a different take and saw something that made me realize something.

You don’t have to use the arranger to “arrange” anything. Just think of it as another way to see a sequence. You can see all the tracks at once. :exploding_head:

That’s it. Doesn’t have to be any more or less than that.

And once, if, the track mutes come back, I think I can get into MPC3

Thank god this update is “free”

Yep. There’s a screenshot of a statement from Andy Mac in that thread that Akai are looking at whether Arrange view/mode could be more than that, but for now, that is the best way to understand it and accept it unless and until it changes.

Exactly. It’s not a big deal. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.
I’ll keep using the multiple sequences method for composing. Once the basic structure of the track is ready, I’ll probably export it to one single sequence and work on extras, add-ons, long takes/vocal recordings, mixing and automation from the new Arranger page.

What threw me off was watching the MPC3 launch and some folks saying and showing how the arranger works. “…and now you can arrange your beats on a linear timeline”

So I’m over here trying to make it work with all the zooming, looping, setting markers etc. going, “wait, this is just a sequence…why am I making this harder than it has to be?!”

It’s the destructive muting that’s got me down for real though. No working around that other than full commitment to erasing parts.

I know there’s an undo button. But that gets convoluted when you’re trying a combo of mute scenarios.

I think the biggest difference to me is the ability to record all my audio from the main screen. I can build a whole track and never dive into a single menu if I’m just using audio tracks

On mpc3 is way faster to work on the grid!

Select notes, hold shift, press delete or duplicate. Change the grid resolution for faster nudging, make sure either relative or absolute on the cog wheel (top right)

Plus the screen feels way snappier, I feel like even the eraser is way better at picking up the one little note I’m trying to delete

Edit: Also you can select all the notes from a pad by (iirc) tapping the pad twice

I haven’t been able to tell if it’s been in my head or not, but OS 3.0 does feel a bit…snappier, more responsive in use, but it also might be how much slower I am as I build the mental map and muscle memory back up.

Were we able to record loooooong ass audio in V2?
In MPC3 I just recorded about 8 min [256 bars @ 120bpm] straight onto the timeline flawlessly. Modular sessions are gonna be crazy now. My SD card is gonna be cooked lol.

Me someone else made the same point on this site. You must’ve missed it:

Please help me out… I’m unable to enter the step sequencer
Did you ever got something like this, seems like clips somehow made it to the 3.x. if I create a clip I’m going to get an error message

I thought, from what I’ve read, that Clips had been removed for now in 3.0. Maybe that’s why you are getting an error?

Has anyone explored the MIDI mapping of Macros/Q-Links with any MIDI controllers on 3.0?

Personally think the mpc one is the best iteration. More buttons and no shitty plastic coating. The one could easily be the definitive best if internal.battery and maybe speakers. I just love the form factor for it.

There is always the Live II Retro - no ”shitty coating” but includes speaker and battery. Simply the best.

I had this the other day. Go to the main page arrangement tab and turn the knob left to reselect arrangement mode and things should behave as normal :+1:

:raised_hands::metal::eagle: duck yeah! I was thinking that was a live OG issue not on the 2, right?

This is also my experience. Any suggestions? I’m guessing it’s a beta thing so I’m not worried at all.

Also for those Eurorack folks who might be wondering, the ES-9 issue is still there. So, yeah, do what you want with that information.
