I wish Roland would do an updated MV8800, as much as I love my JJOSXL MPCs. Using the MV was something special, I argue it’s still better than the current crop of MPC in terms of design and implementation. Way ahead of its time. Plus I know Roland won’t implement touchscreens hahaha
Yeah, if only you could use the kick as the side chain source then I would. But there are all kinds of mix related problems doing it this way unfortunately, hence why I need to have the kick and snare as their own tracks.
That’s hilarious and wild at the same time considering the mf still can’t even slice and edit samples. Couldn’t believe it. Which reminds me, I have one brand new boxed up ready to go fund the new Live 3 if it’s fly enough. Thanks for the reminder. It was gonna be collecting dust at the top of my highest closet waiting on an update that would make it an actual sampler that can chop lol.
The DN2 box is empty of course. That damn thing is GOAT’d already. Strict instructions to bury it with me inside my Jeep one day.
I personally found a stylus even less useful and compelling than using my finger.
I really tried to get the drum synth multi into my workflow over the years, but mixing becomes such a pain, and muting as well, since pad mute doesn’t work…
I use them separately as well now, and just embrace the limits.
I can really recommend it to anyone who wants to dive a bit deeper into mixing. Sidechain as mentioned, another example is the global send fx.
But the biggest win for me is to have all track mutes in one place. Really helps with live jamming and arrangement
You can set up the Project macros to have the DrumSynth mutes & other parameters all next to each other.
Well, Akai posted on IG to come to their booth with a screenshot of all their current gear. So no new drops at super booth. With the MPC Live 2 being discontinued it would have to be soon, still odd they wouldn’t just show it there.
I’m not even the slightest bit disappointed. Not saying they won’t release a new Live or that I’m not excited about new tech…I am. I’m just more than content with what’s available and fine waiting to see what develops.
Also, not really sure why everyone keeps saying Live 2 is discontinued. It is factually not discontinued and still available for purchase at many retailers including Inmusic.com and Akai’s very own website.
Maybe those screens will drop in a flurry of dry ice and Live 3 will rise out of the floor…
Because sweetwater removed it from their site while sales reps have been hinting to people to stay tuned and guitar center has told many, including myself, that it is discontinued. Add that to the FCC filing, MPC 3 software, and it’s not hard to tell why people are thinking what they are thinking. The buttons on the Live 2 are completely outdated to the new software.
Maybe they’ll announce on Friday as a way to go Excited into the Weekend and be all a buzz about Akai
We all just want to bring the salt!!.
@KingMidas When I checked a few days ago these were out of stock. obviously it’s been updated since.
The MPC Live 2 and MPC X deals (extra software) that are running now run until end of May right? My gut feel is that they will release something shortly after that. At the moment they want to maximise selling the above still to clear our stock as much as possible.
They were out of stock on Akai’s site? Hmmm. Restocking would lead me to assume that a new version is still weeks/months away.
what sampling feature from older MPCs are you missing on the current line?
Probably workflow, more tactile control. There’s something scrubbing with theclicky jog wheel, chopping with the function keys to mark is so satisfying. However, the modern MPC just craps on the old ones if we are talking features.
That’s one idea as well. Or a midi track for each sound, tried that but it felt too fiddly for me.
I need the full mixing options anyway. E.g add chorus on hihats, send to delay pro, or sidechain from the kick etc.
And I like to have quick access to Program Edit.
I don’t really have much skin in this new release game as I don’t currently have an MPC, but I am interested in getting one again, as there are certain things that I think it did better than my Push 3.
I think there is still a possibility that they are waiting until tomorrow to bring out the new device. Big Friday reveal, perhaps. It does seem like some button and UI updates should happen to reflect changes from 2.x to 3.x
