I repeated this many times, but when you’re editing and writing chords with lots of midi notes its a complete ass. I have to use the software to edit it anyway. It’snot fun having to do take after take, to eventually have to boot back and forth in controller mode to sort out midi. Yeah I know I’m ranting:)
Honestly sometimes I’m shocked I sequenced my previous albums entirely on an MPC because of this haha.
On another note, somebody above said MPC 3 has multitrack recording - what exactly did they mean? Was that referring to recording internal tracks, or recording into a DAW via USB without the VST, or recording into the MPC, or something else?
They have to check the midi script… there are many problems related with “ghost” notes, with the shift button that stops mpc sequencer when in master/slave mode, losing learn configurations, and some list of etc…
I love Mpc anyway but when akai fixes this things ill marrie with mpc
Day 2
Turned it on, and any plugs I bought and the beta deactivated and I had to reactivate.
You can, it’s just a worse way of doing it than what we already have for a lot of standard techniques - at a minimum it’s additional/unnecessary friction at a point of the process when you want to move quickly. Also, it’s not a solution in a live scenario where you want a sequence to start with a particular set of mutes and then improvise bringing stuff in and out using the mutes. Fwiw Digitakt song mode follows this same mute implementation for the same reasons.
Yep, you can use the tab to slide it in and out on most screens.
I’m in the same boat, there’s some stuff I like here for sure and there’s also a lot of stuff I really, really don’t. Enough that I know if/when I go back to 2.15 it’s going to bug me, but I just don’t see a solution to the live performance stuff especially. Probably with some of the others while I prefer the MPC way I could maybe live with the changes and adapt how I use it and what I use it for.
From reading the manual it looks like if you “downgrade” there isn’t an equivalent “upgrade” option - probably I’ll want to A/B some of this stuff. I suppose sticking the firmware on a usb key will do it.
Yeah, I mean even the Ipad has mouse support which is even more ridiculous since its Apple. Even they know using a mouse/pen is far better for precise data input.
“Multitrack audio recording” just means you can record external audio inputs on up to eight audio tracks at the same time, whether simultaneously or one after another.
Elektron has spoiled us with the midi side of things, everything is so easy to setup and locks in nicely. Not so much with the MPC… the CV outs are basically unusable for tight clocks and triggers, and I don’t think it will get fixed any time soon as it appears to be a pretty low level programming/hardware issue
I’ve found work arounds, but it’s not ideal. I tend to use my MPC’s as it’s own thing, and when sampling external stuff it’s usually just using the audio trigger so it hasn’t bothered me much. Would be nice to make use of all those CV and midi outs on my X but oh well.
It’s decent as a master midi clock (still pretty jittery) but will not sync at all in jam sessions when it’s slaved. Unfortunate because the old ones don’t seem to have these issues afaik
Long gone are the days when you could say MPC had rock tight midi sync, I remember MPC 1000 just being the brain of my setup in my yoof. Modern MPCs are a nightmare to sort out
i’ve been hunting for an older MPC over the last year. Still haven’t found the “right” one condition/price/location wise. JJOS’d 1000 is up there for me
err ya and an excuse to post some Spin Scott rockin one lol
I cannot find the returns with the plugs
There is also somewhere a reverb and a delay set via the returns although I just used a blank template
Got it
Had a bit more playtime today setting up a template project with all my drums, couple of fx returns etc… That new mixer makes everything sooooo much easier. Love it.
One weird thing: Pad color button seems to be gone from the drum track pencil menu. Still in the main menu but gone from the place I use it most to color code my kits 🫣
Also: AIR Expander seems to be gone atm. Had a drumkit using it which couldn’t find the fx plugin.
This… I think they used the interface from the DrumSynth Multi plugin
Looks very much the same but enhanced
Have you read me somewhere that is not for me? Or you deduce it because I’m talking about some errors, MANUFACTURING/DESIGN ERRORS, not about what I would like it to do, it should already be done, it is an unwritten deal. What part of is a manufacturing error have you not understood?
"Yes, she is my girl, but coming from the nobility and from a school for ladies, she was supposed to know how to eat with cutlery, and how to spell the word Midi, the people I appreciate love her and can forgive me for not knowing how to do basic things, but “I can’t take her to the country club or make presentations with her in society”
Can i explain you with apples or potatoes if you want…

Ok I might just have to start using this in my daily conversations
Wondering if I should wait until the public beta is officially released? Maybe someone can help here…
At the moment, I use my MPC 95% of the time this way, and this is just for gigs…
Go through all my ‘finished’ mixed tracks in Logic, chop em up into equal chunks of no less than 8 and no more than 16. Those chunks get placed into a clip program and share the same mute group. Now I can just move around the different clips to improvise arrangements on the fly with really great sounding parts. From there, I can improvise on synth and/or guitar. Using all these mixed/mastered parts feels a bit like cheating, but it sounds so much bigger and better and many folks comment how much better my music sounds over the PA than when I was going straight from the Syntakt and through the Octatrack (even though most tracks were written on this combo).
I only write a few beats here and there on the MPC as I’m still learning it and haven’t had much free time.
Would there be any advantages to me going MPC3 at this time or should I wait?
I was attempting to make a funny remark as is often done in this forum.
I did not mean anything with it other than an association with the two sentences I quoted from you.
Nothing serious at all.
I will delete my remark.
Clips don’t work in the current beta, so I’d definitely hold off if it’s central to what you do.
Does anyone know how to only receive Program Change commands from one external midi device?
I have Program Change set to Sequence in my Midi/Sync prefs.
I only want my MPC to take PC messages from my midi foot controller (Line 6 Helix), but its also taking/receiving PC messages from my Prophet Rev2 when I scroll through presets, same with my Moog Sub 25.
Anyone have any ideas?
