MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Would definitely love to hear some of the music you make with it.

It’s inevitable when you use it for more precise production. The good news is that the MPC plugin works flawlessly so once you start to reach that point, either keep running just the MPC but in controller mode instead, or drop the MPC plugin into the daw and proceed to more advanced mixing and finish the project entirely. It’s very seamless going from sketching (with precision) on the MPC, to finishing the full production in Ableton for me.

Yeah that’s why we chose the angle bout debunking some myths about the MPC when publishing our first MPC-produced tune on the channel. I’m guessing the “why” has a lot to do with how Akai chooses to nurture its core community.

Also, why would drop stems & all the rest of these plugins & then abandoned this current gen?

Seems like they planned on this gen to last for 10 years. Maybe they’ll make a new gen & still support the current one as much as they can.

Good band name.

Of course they’ll do. They have been working on improving and expanding the software platform for years now. Next step is gonna be a more powerful lineup of hardware for the next 7-10 years.

I was talking about the hardware. Basically I don’t think many of us are used to Akai supporting a device for so many years & we keep thinking a new gen device is right around the corner.

I like this approach, I just wish they would focus more on bugs & QOL improvements, also being more transparent about the future of the platform wouldn’t hurt. Seeing them drop a major feature like stems for a 7 year old device is amazing & makes it hard to hate on them too much.

Speaking on stems, Bolo’s said that this is just the first version of it & it’ll improve as time goes on for whatever that’s worth. He’s one the few YouTube dudes that be on point with most things.

I’m thinking of updating to 2.15 (on Mac standalone software first). Do you know where to find downloads for the MPC2 software ver. 2.14 still in case the new one isn’t good for some reason? All I can find is the new version on my InMusic account.

I think here

Edit - ah I C, MPc2 DaW vers 2.14. I’ll check my computer I may still have an install in my downloads still.

My guess is newer hardware whenever and current code and plugins updated to make use of it.

I was thinking with the new gen, they’ll make many more powerful features/plugins that won’t be supported on the current gen, but some stuff will & hopefully they’ll still fix bugs.

Yeah, that’s only the firmware, unfortunately.

They could drop support for the first gen One tomorrow and as long as they fixed any outstanding bugs and ensured plugins stayed activated, I’d be fine with it. I’m not enormously confident Akai will demonstate the same degree of cross-gen support we’ve seen with the Rytm, for example, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong and it’s certainly more of a pessimistic gut feeling than an evidence-based projection.

One concern is that I suspect lingering bugs are an unavoidable element of these kinds of devices that rely on an underlying OS and a plugin system, so I’m not sure any modern MPC will ever reach a ‘finished’ state.

Everyone with first-gen models, let’s meet up on Jan 19th 2038 so we can hold each other in our trembling arms while our MPCs boot up. It won’t be long now.

Thank you for checking!

Was just on a video call with my boss who I normally only see in person, and on his left side he had a nice looking MPC One+!

Unfortunately only a summer boss, but I hope it could become a full time thing in the future.

He also had a modular setup he revealed on the other side of the room which he finds easier to work with than the MPC, which lead to a nice chat about mental models and music machines. Then we got stuck into the real meeting on non-music related ux.

Just don’t say anything about here or you’ll have to go rouge during work hours!

Lol, rouge is fitting. The shame of being caught Akai handed on this forum instead of working?:joy:
