so is it possible to REC in controller mode with the VST?
The Air Channel Strip is a good utility plugin that gives you EQ, Compression, Gating and some other functions, and only takes up one slot. I think there are Drum Bus presets in there too to get started.
If youâre new to the MPC Iâd recommend getting an expansion pack too⌠Google the popular ones and see which style is for you, but most come with plugins used on the channels, so theyâre good to analyse and see how theyâre being used (and you can save/recall the individual plugins or full strips).
This dude The Crates Motel got you covered: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuAN6E6cCNwGxyoS54ba0puZeVk9tgsm2&si=CVERgV2ifDkZnKpC
Before you get a expansion pack use the search engine in the load menu & type Kick or whatever & load all the built in sounds you like & make your own drum programs from the best of what there. You can even make custom samples from the built in DrumSynth.
Props to InMusic support (Lee). All sorted now! They were great to deal with.
Iâm once again seriously tempted to try an MPC One again after reading this. Been thinking about it off-and-on for the last few months, and seeing your reports in this thread have me hopeful I could get exactly what I wanted in P3SA out of an MPC + Live.
I second The Crates Motel channel! Conanâs an unbelievable resource and a lovely guy. Such a brilliant engineer. Thereâs one video where he provides a free template:

Are there any other boxes with an auto-sampler feature? Iâve been spending wayyyy too much time sampling hardware synths. Almost finished with my Digitone. Just stole my friendâs Moog One, haha. All of it on a little USB drive. Now having fun with software synths!
I believe machine+, 1010 music blackbox and tangerine all do it.
Machine+ is good at this. Not tried the Mpc to do it yet
Obviously this is where you get to eventually (if thatâs your aim), but the Expansion Packs are a great way to deconstruct kits to see how theyâve been set up, and, get familiar with the MPC structure and workflow.
The Marco Polo packs are good, and I quite liked the Tape Series Vol 1 pack⌠I wouldnât use them for my serious projects, but they allow me to have fast fun from time to time, and still develop MPC chops.
why not for serious projects, quality not that good?
Oh no, I didnât meant that, the quality is great⌠I just mean the vibe/sounds arenât generally right for my personal projects, that said, there are some one shots that I would/could use.
The kits are usually based around melodics (bass lines, instrumental parts, etc) designed to be chopped, so as I play/write music I wouldnât use them, but I find them fun to mess about with.
gotâcha, I am just about to get into marco polos stuff, have known about him forever but never got into it⌠I love beatbutchers one shots though
A year ago, or whenever it was that you were using One as the heart of your setup, is when you seemed the happiest or most content with making music.
Not saying I know whatâs going on inside your head and I know youâve had work stressors etc, Iâve also heard you say how powerful push 3 is and now youâre mostly just using that and S1, but I donât think Iâve ever heard you say itâs fun.
You definitely seemed like you were having fun using One, despite whatever limitations it may bring hardware-wise, and that album you released made on One was really good.
Donât rush out and sell all your shit, but I donât think youâre wrong to consider what working with an MPC brought to your creative arsenal.
Honestly, reading this was very validating - itâs part of my thinking about picking up a One again, to be honest. There were limitations, but those limitations made me work harder to get my music to the place I wanted it, and I wasnât bothered by things like the touch screen or whatever most of the time, until I decided to be bothered by them (I will say I do vastly prefer Simpler to slicing on MPC but thatâs because I never put the work in to get good at it).
Learning Push has had its ups and downs, but I focus a lot more on technical minutiae now than just making music sometimes, and in the end I just end up using it like an MPC with better FX/ more pads anyway. On the other hand, I have a whole albumâs worth of material Iâve worked on via Push if I ever actually get it transferred to the computer to finish up - Iâll be curious if my vibe still comes through once I actually polish it all up, or if itâll reflect the chaos the gear-switching has put me through.
I appreciate this a lot. Thereâs a joy that I lost in trying to find the âperfectâ gear even though I know intellectually such a thing doesnât exist. I think that joy shined through in the last album.
I donât really give a shit about soccer, but they donât call the guy in front of the net the âgoal protectorâ, they call him âthe goal keeperâ.
Somehow, this parallels to me the difference between the struggle of finding what you love vs loving what you find. Strictly semantically speaking.
Just to say that I think what youâre saying makes perfect sense, and itâs part of being human. You may be growing into your ability to excel through compromise and getting a window into what makes you as a person able to rise to the (proverbial) top.
What a lovely post and such a beautiful way of showing your attention to the human beings on this forum. This made me happy to read.
I was knocking your suggestion BTW, itâs just that I never bought any if those packs & wanted the guy to know thereâs enough free options before they decide to make a purchase.
This is the kind of post that makes Elektronauts the special place it is.
Couldnât agree more. Itâs the first website I check every morning. Best community. One of the few.
Plus I got to discover @m0ld amazing record! Canât believe you sequenced that all on a One!
