MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

I just discovered the returns and submixes, what a difference … now I got some idea why they call it MPC, it’s something like a stripped-down (or limited) DAW in a box

anyway, disc-streaming and env-follower would be a-nice-to-have feature

It seems it has only one single stereo out though, unless I’m missing something…

Several instances? Is a plugin after all :+1:

of course, but is more complicated and less flexible. Anyway for the price i paid (free) is excellent as is

Seen the mpc mini being mentioned here and there, especially since the new TE EP133 sampler came out. Is the SP404 mk2 not what would be the equivalent of a mpc mini? Or is it still too large?

I wouldn’t put the 404 in the same category since it has it’s own cool/bizarre method of operation and it’s surpisingly bulky as well. Closest thing that I’ve seen to the legend of the MPC Mini would probably be an iPad.

It’s not the only the size that makes the MPC/SP different. Their methodology & feature set is made for different type of beat makers. So even a MPC/Force mini wouldn’t make “most” SP users want it.

Can anyone point me to a few tutorials/ideas for transitions between between sequences?
Got a track arranged in song mode, done some mutes/variations etc but most of the transitions sound really dull.
Simpler the better - thanks!

One idea would be to use the q link project mode, map the knobs to some sweet fx/sound params across your song. On top of that you could also add a an XY effect

Maybe grab Beat Flex while it’s on sell since that’s one of things it’s made for. Also, learning & then creatively using the macros will surely offer some cool transitions, breaks, drops & whatever.

I don’t like telling artists how to specifically create art, so this is something your gonna have to take some time & see what you can come up with. If it helps make it into a creative challenge!

I think transitions are overthought and overdone most of the time… all you’re looking for really is an impact from your next seq/track, right?
Roll the bass off, add a bit of delay, usually that does it… but it depends on the genre tbh.

Any sound examples?
Have you got any reference transitions in commercial tracks that you like?

Thanks @aortan @Poetic-Noise @CCMP
Got the trial of Beat Flex - it would be good if it had a global setting for loop/one shot/hold and quantise, and if you could record automation. And if the the pads could trigger the fx instead of just the touchscreen.
XYFX - I’ve actually never used so far but there’s some great stuff in there, no reverb though (I know I can put one on insert seperately).

All I’ve done is mess about for half an hour without reading any documents so I might have just missed all of this stuff.

@CCMP this one’s DnB so beat repeats and filters are sounding nice and phaser/flanger

There also the Touch FXs, that I’ve never really used, but it’s an option.

It’s a very different workflow and feature set compared to an MPC. The SP sequencer is barebones to say the least, and you can’t really use it to make full tracks because you need to commit to (“print”/resample) effects to your sounds. There are no built-in synths, no arps, no real envelopes.

I think of the SP as a sampler and effect box, whereas the MPC is (literally) a music production center that you can use to produce fully mixed songs on - or just use it as a competent sampler of that’s all you need from it.

AIR has members-only Cyber Monday deals on their plugins. Looks at least an additional $10 off the Black Friday price.

In the end, the prices were still too high for me for any spontaneous shopping. I’m not going to pay north of 1000 SEK (~90 EUR) for a Juno plugin, it’s just not priced correctly in my humble opinion. If they sold for something like 30 EUR, I might have pulled the trigger out of pure curiosity.

Let’s hope for inMusic that this business model works so we can ensure longevity of the MPC platform, but for me, I’m staying out of that whole plugin ecosystem if these were the best discount they could offer.

…said the person who just dropped lots of money on a Push 3 standalone which costs way more than Jura.

Seriously though I have to admit I would not have bought Jura for US $98.6 - based on an online Euro to US dollar converter.

No further comment about MPC plugin pricing, having seen how heated discussion on that subtopic can be. I simply shared what AIR emailed out.

Pluginboutique offers it for about $75.
I do not regret anything

I understand how that may seem like a logical contradiction, but my point is that, to me, that’s much better value to pay once to get all the synth types I need. And of course, with a P3S I’m paying for other things too, such as not having to do stem exports and work on song embryos in standalone without perceived/real limitations.

Anyway, happy to not bring it up again, was just saying that I didn’t think the deals were compelling enough to pull the trigger this time.
