Gotta keep an ear and an eye out for those mistakes!
Thanks for sharing, easy pick-up for ÂŁ29.99.
Do they ever do similar for the Stage Piano & Stage EP?
Hi. The FM pianos presets are just OK. I would not buy OPx4 for pianos. I tried to make my own, but without sine waves and with 4 operators it will be just something basic.
Download the Demo.
Maybe, i would have also payed 30 bucks, that is a fair price for it imho.
It doesnât have sine waves? That is quite strange as that is traditionally the basis for FM
Itâs funny â I have both Force and a Live II. While the Force is my main jam, I often times wish that it could do certain things the MPC way and vice versa.
Clearly the two devices have seen increasing convergence over time and Iâm pretty sure that Akai develops them in parallel from a shared code base. I wish there was a way to pick and choose which features I had on which machine.
OPx-4 uses a matrix-style programming interface to adjust how each of the four operators is modulating one or more or all of the other operators. so not the traditional Yamaha/Digitone style algorithm-based workflow. but each operator does start with a base waveform (I think) just not apparent if itâs a pure sine wave. I havenât had the time to really dive deeply into programming original patches (still trying to sort out all the options on Digitoneâs first)
Can you explain what you mean by âwithout sine wavesâ?
I have this plugin but havenât dug into it too deeply but the 4 x 4 operator matrix seems to open up a huge space of sound designing opportunities.
But again, I havenât dug in much yet so would like to hear from some feedback and experience from someone who has spent an appreciable amount of time with itâŚ
I bought the MPC Instruments Collection, OPx-4, Mini D, Flavor Pro and the Keys Collection for âŹ125,- in total.
About the instruments, I really like the OPx-4 and the Mini D. For me itâs given a boost for my music production., especially ambient. Above that Flavor Pro has very good tape/vinyl FX.
Sorry, I mean âclean / pure sine wavesâ. Even if you initialize all settings by yourself you dont get clean sine wave as we discused earlier in this thread. The sounds are always a little harsher.
There are some formant modificators and similar features, so thats probably the reason why.
Anyway, I suggest anybody to try the demo before purchase. If you just want some new presets, you will see that they are very similar to Hype.
Hello. Sorry, I meant clean or pure sine waves. I am sure anyone can create a ton of wonderfull sounds with it. But if anyone expects to create classical (perfect) sounds I dont think it could be possible.
I would like to hear anybodys patches with classical wooden, metalic, bells sounds made with OPx4 .
This plugins main feature is the mod matrix - evolving sounds and modulations.
the bells, plucks, and EP presets are all very metallic FM, on the whole. itâs fine, itâs just not the way most people are probably used to programming FM if they learned on a DX or Digitone
Wow! What a steal!
Wish I could have taken advantage of thatâŚIâve got the instrument collection but Iâm till waiting for the Mini D to be on sale in the US before I pick that one up.
did that include the Solina? what kind of promo was it?
Re: Part 2 of your workflow
Exactly what I do, have not looked backâŚgood tip on setting the mute group, before
copying the pad.
One thing I have noticed is you have to leave link slices on in sample edit whilst you copy and select
your slices in program edit or it wonât work (took a few goes to figure it out) Once itâs done you can then turn it off and start to edit your slices freely.
Yes, Solina included. Wasnât a promo, I found it while searching.
Solina is great, and I really like the Keys/Fabric Collection, which I never thought I would, but itâs become my go to for Rhodes/Wurli sounds (along with the Reface CP).
Iâve not really taken to the OP4x, because I have a Digitone and a few other FM options I prefer⌠but, I really like what theyâve done with recreation synths (Solina, Odyssey, Mellotron, etc).
I said that I thought $500 was a rip off for the Collection when it came out, and I eventually got it for $99.
I know itâs just the way of the software world these days, but it really pisses me off how companies like Akai/Air exploit their loyal users for getting in early⌠I know itâs the business, but itâs still shit.
Thinking people paid full price for the Collection, and many paid $150 for OP4x is annoying when you see people paying peanuts for it⌠honeymoon/early adopter hype removed, OP4x is a $20-30 plugin.
Anyway⌠hope people whoâve got the deal enjoy it.
Thanks for the further info @MetabaronCZ.
Your statement made me curious about how âcleanâ the basic operators are in the OPx4, as they sounded like plain old sine waves when I listened casually, so I fired up a oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer on my ipad.
Just looking at the oscilloscope the init patch looks like a sine wave, but if you look at the spectrum analyzer, then indeed you see all the additional side bands (btw, I made sure all modulation was off â this is a single operator w/no filtering, etc):
Compare this the âpureâ sine wave coming out of the Hydrasynth:
Thatâs what great about forums like this â other members insights or feedback can get you to look deeper into something you took for granted!
I just happen to have a reface cp, which do you prefer between the two?
Which oscilloscope/spectrum app is that?
