Warranty is not voided, it boots from a external image. So no problems.
It seems to run quite good. Forme it runs perfect, but maybe that comes because I have the Force

I have both and I ended up using the Mpc more often because of speakers and portability, having both would be great, I could easily create kits and sample on the MPC and produce on the Force, balancing the strength points of each.
In case, can you just un-install or remove the firmware?
It seems to boot from an external image (ie a file on an SD card) so no need to uninstall or remove.
@Peter118 can I ask something - the FB group said that it doesnāt work if you have an SSD installed. Are you using a Live or Live II with an SSD or do you know anything about this?
Sorry @Claid I donāt know. I only own a Akai Force.
Oh sorry, I thought you meant your had a Force and an MPC. My bad.
I owned a Live II retro, but sold it and bought a Force.
Iāve run into a couple slightly annoying things, but I wonder if I am overlooking some settings as Iāve only had my MPC Live II a couple weeks.
Iāve been using different track lengths and the behavior is slightly weird.
With a one bar (4 beats) track inside a 16 bar sequence, I would expect to see the play head repeatedly scrub over that bar in the grid or step sequencer view but instead it just disappears for the remainder of the sequence.
My one bar of kick drum hits play fine for the full 16 bar sequence, but if I make automation in the step sequencer or the grid view it doesnāt repeat, it just stays wherever it was at the end of that first bar.
(So far Iāve gotten around this by copying pads and then setting variations like different filter values on each one)
Also, is there an easy, clean way to copy entire bars around? So far when I select a bunch of notes and copy them it takes a lot of careful nudging to get an exact copy of the previous bar.
Assuming you need a Facebook account to download?
Yeah the different track lengths is a bit strange, but basically the Playhead follows the master track at the top. The track do repeat though but always reset to zero when the master sequence reaches zero again unlike Elektrons. Not sure about the automation offhand.
As for copying you have to use the select tool and select the bar, then it will copy correctly and paste from where you place the maker by clicking on the top. The note editor and workflow is the weakest part of the MPC for me, I hope one day they revamp it. Theyāve obviously never used something like Gadget to see how easy it can actually be using touch. Itās workable though and you get used to it.
I switched my Live 2 to a b-stock Live (right before no gear new year) and Iām really happy with the change. For me the form factor looks better, 2 felt a bit cluttered with buttons, and as people have said, shift/pad gets you most things quickly without prodding the screen. Iām happy using MIDI-CV and like someone else said I actually wasnāt using the speaker at all. Outside? Headphones. Sofa next to others/holiday cottage/train? Headphones. Studio room? I want it LOUD, hook it up to the proper monitors.
Itās weird, not a massive size/weight reduction but Live 2 felt too big and Live doesnāt. Plus I clawed back almost Ā£400 and still have exactly the same capabilities!
Anyone else gone ābackwardsā or stuck at mk1 and happy?
I had the MPC Live but had trouble with the rubbery surface material and it wearing off from the corners due to using a decksaver. Then I realized that the limited Retro edition was going to run out very soon and took the plunge. For a few weeks I had both and toyed with the idea of keeping them, but finances made me sell the OG Live.
I love my Live II Retro, itās so pretty and the surface isnāt rubbery at all. Itās probably my favourite piece of gear. I also appreciate the speakers, the top panel volume knob and the added buttons. If I had a lot of money I still wouldāve kept them both.
Would be cool if they offered a no rubbery shell for sale. Iād get one.
YOU READIN THIS AKAI!?
But Iām not at all interested in the bigger version.
I donāt have an mpc live anymore, couldnāt deal with the coating on the chassis so I sold it, but after you have the live mk2 for a while I donāt even notice the size difference that much, Iām more amazed that with the speakers it still feels like itās the same weight⦠it feels like the live mk1 was not even lighter than the retro mk2
Very cool. I think he couldāve done better having the screen fold back into is original position. But very nice.
Just bought a DT off ebay to go with my mpc. May also get an OT to see which one i like better and sell off the other.
Is it possible to have my mpc one as the main sequencer, but still take advantage of the DTās midi parameter locks and trigs to affect synths and sounds from the mpc? Or will i need to use the dt as a sequencer?
What Iāve been experiencing with DN is that : you can mess with p.lock but the trig from MPC have to hit on the same time.
Worked well when Iāve inputed a 4 bars bass line from MPC to DN 1 bar full of plocks (cause that way the trig from MPC would always hit on the same step as the plock).
Didnt work when I wanted to modulate one chord played for 4 bars, as the hit from the MPC is only on beat one.
But thatās empirical deduction only and Iāve not pushed the investigation further.
And youāve juste talked about what Iāve found to be te saddest about MPC.
Yes the surface is a bit odd, I also ordered a skin from Styleflip for it so weāll see how that feels.
@Wolf-Rami I almost went for the Retro, it does look very cool, but in the end my obsession with black gear won out! (@DonovanDwyer knowsā¦)
Planning to actually sit down with the thing and learn some of it this afternoon. I should remember some workflow from the 1000/2500 days hopefully. There are so many videos on it, do you guys know a favourite introductory lesson? Thanks!
Tube Digga
Get the MPC Bible, you wonāt regret it. Iām still in the middle of that and itās great.
