MPC 500 following Octatrack

I just ordered a second-hand MPC 500 to sequence some external synths. I’m going to have the MPC midi synced to OT as master. It’s my understanding that in MPC language a pattern is a sequence. My question is will the MPC follow the OT’s pattern changes? So when I change a pattern on the OT the MPC changes to the corresponding sequence. This would be awesome if it did! It looks like the MPC accepts PC messages so it seems it should work. Also, what type of message does the OT bank change send? I’m wondering if I can use that in a way to change songs on the MPC so it follows my whole OT set. Thanks in advance.

@sezare56 you have an MPC 500 correct?

It can receive program changes to change programs (), but I don’t think you can change sequences with PCs. Not sure if there’s a way.

Yep. Didn’t used it much, limited by a 30MB card! I may be able to use OT’s 16GB for it soon, and use it more.

Ok fair enough. It still has what I want from a sequencer that the OT doesn’t have for live keys playing.

Yes me too. The Mpc can be the master, and send PCs. Check song mode too.

Haha I literally just read that thread! I’ll have to experiment when it arrives. With live looping and all my Parts and Banks I think I want keep OT as master

Yep. It’s possible to sample certain Mpc part you can’t play with OT midi tracks limitations.
And sequence what you can with OT. I found arp really interesting for generative random drums with an mpc indian kit

I love Tabla. What you’ve made sounds cool. Very organic. Is it the OT arp trigger Tabla samples on the MPC?

With the 1000 changing patterns on the OT changes the sequence. The other way around didn’t work how I expected, however. Also, I believe I had to make blank sequences on the mpc to compensate if I didn’t have, say, all of the “A” bank used on the OT. In other words pattern B1 had to be sequence 17.

Thanks for the advice. I think I can make that work if I think it through.

Should work with Pchanges edited in step edit for 1000 and 500.

Yes, 3 or 4 OT midi tracks with arp.
An rdm lfo on arp speed.

When you say P changes edited in step edit do you mean on Midi tracks in the OT? If I sent a P change on step one of pattern 2 for example would it instantly switch on the MPC and be in sync? I suppose a lot of these things I will just have to try it when I get the MPC and see if it works.

Note: I also have a Digitone In the chain so I also have the option to send midi messages from that.

No, on mpcs, with a pc at the end of a transitional pattern…Maybe it’d work with OT master clock, with Receive Prog Change checked in SYNC page.
