Movie's that have the "wrong" soundtrack

What movies do you think are great but just wish had a different soundtrack.

always preferred the Eurythmics full synth soundtrack to 1984 to the orchestral one they released in theaters

There is something about the soundtrack for A History of Violence that just doesn’t feel right to me. Love the movie though.

I can see that, the tone of it has some weird scoring decisions even for a cronenberg film.

I have one the other way around: shit movie, revolutionary soundtrack (for that era, early nineties):

Anything involving Hans Fucking Zimmer.

Also, the Coil soundtrack for Hellraiser is way better than the melodramatic dross they ended up with.

Wizard of Oz. It’s obvious it should’ve been Dark Side of the Moon.

“R.E.D.” Soundtrack has Muddy Waters tune (Chicago associations) for New Orleans and Meters tune (New Orleans associations) for Chicago.

Pollock. Pish score.

I bet you’ve won a few dinner parties with that one.

Breakdance 2: Electric Boogaloo

Just because Breakdance/Breakin’ had a kick ass soundtrack and I can’t remember a single track from the follow up.

Queen’s “one vision” quoting Luther King on Iron Eagle, which is joke !

“He Got Game” has an over the top, Gershwin-like soundtrack, which proves to be distracting through much of the film. I wish Spike Lee would release another version.

I only know of soundtracks that have bad movies.

Not a movie, but probably relevant to a lot of Elektronauts: I’m replaying the Mass Effect trilogy right now, and am about halfway through.

ME2 is definitely a better, more polished game, but the soundtrack is noticeably worse. ME1 has this gorgeous, vintage sci-fi synth score with oodles of character, but ME2 abandons most of it for the worst kind of early 2010s generic orchestral thwamps. At least they kept the galaxy map theme.

…zimmmer?..always doing the most obvious thing, while getting the biggest claims, how unbelieveable innovative it is, out of it…

music is a conversation, call and response, my ass…

vorsprung durch technik meets advantage comes from hireing the right people to do the job for u…

The kraut-rock noodlings of Popul Vuh over the movie Fitzcarraldo(1982).

It works ultimately because it’s weird and the movie is weird, or maybe just because I like kraut-rock noodlings, but given the movie’s setting in the early 1900s and the subject of opera, the very 80s soundtrack is really out of place.

Personally I wish it were possible to turn soundtracks off. I don’t want to be told what to feel and I’ve seen many scenes that would’ve been breathtaking if there wasn’t the music trying to explain the obvious to me like I’m a toddler.

Well, I solved that by not watching movies anymore, except the occaisonal 80s/90s comedy movie :woman_shrugging: but

Dumb and dumber’s soundtrack couldn’t possibly be any dumber but it was hilarious so it totally redeemed itself!

This is when I think a soundtrack has failed. I think most modern soundtracks fall into this trap of trying to be part of the script, instead of part of the stage.

Think about Tarantino’s first few films. He really understood the importance of music in setting a scene, but allowed the actors and audience to figure out everything else between them. None of this big fucking orchestrally engorged musocock jabbing me in my deaf ear every time Cillian Murphy looks nervous or whatever.

And then there’s stuff like Susprira (the old, good one) where the soundtrack is used in the most over the top and odd ways (simple things like sudden changes in volume and pieces of music just ending or starting suddenly out of nowhere) to completely disorient the audience and create anxiety and dread in even the most innocent scenes.

But yeah, Zimmer and his lot really try to hijack the script and it makes a lot of modern films almost unwatchable for me.
