I watched Once Upon A Time in Anatolia the other day. Very unusual, interesting and entertaining film. Similar in a way to Pulp Fiction but actually close to a masterpiece.

I tried to watch EO last night but had to turn it off after 1/3 or so as it was so very sad and I couldn’t take another bad turn of luck for that sweet donkey.

I feel the same about that film but I think that still want to keep it close somehow, without watching it again.
If you haven’t watched TÁR yet, I think you really should.

this isn’t out, but based on the director and the art style…I think its recommendable.

I watched Living (2022) last night with Bill Nighy who was fantastic. Overall, the film was good; a bit cloying at times but every scene where Nighy spoke made up for its flaws. Never saw Ikiru which it was based on and might check that out tonight.

I just watched this great documentary The Children of the Pyre about these kids in India who cremate bodies. Difficult to get through but worth it–they have such honest and wise things to share and understandably seem to smoke a lot of weed.
I watched Ghost in the Shell for the first time. That was great. Is 2.0 worth watching? The reviews seem mixed…
I watched a few John Hurt films recently, he was excellent as Caligula in I, Claudus.
I tried to watch this last night, interesting film/fascinating life story, but it got on my nerves after a while.

Do you mean in the grammatic sense? I noticed this as well but I wasn’t sure if it was just my subtitles being weird/auto-translated or not.
I think the movie was great, it took some time to adjust to its mood and tempo but I thought it was really engrossing and lots to digest once it was over.

If you like the others you’ll like this but I did get a little bored during some of the fight scenes. It’s still full of henchmen waving their weapons around and taking their turn to fight.

Haven’t seen that one, but if you’re after some cool John Hurt movie recommendations, I’d say ‘Alien’, ‘Dogville’ and ‘The Elephant Man’ are probably the best candidates.
The 1979 movie Caligula recommended in my previous post was released as a historical epic, but was actually produced by the founder of Penthouse magazine. When someone like that teams-up with and throws cash at a director like Tinto Brass, you sort of know it’s gonna be good!
Due to having a star cast, people assumed the sex scenes in Caligula were simulated when in fact they were real. Another totally awesome but sexually depraved movie from Tinto Brass is the 1975 movie ‘Salon Kitty’.
That said, both Caligula and Salon Kitty pale in comparison to the depravity and kink on show in Pasolini’s 1975 movie ‘Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom’. I have never seen anything so fascinatingly odd and depraved as that one. Seriously, I have the uncensored version (shown below) and there’s a kink on display in that one makes even me want to vomit.
But just like Caligula, it was made as an historical epic kinda thing. It was even released by MGM and distributed by the BFI (British Film Institiute), so kinky and distrubing as ‘Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom’ is, it’s very good that it commands a lot of respect in a film-making and cultural sense!
But yeah, if you ever get to see this version (which is completely uncensored), you’ll never forget what you saw (which is basically two epic hours of epic depravity)
