I don’t know that it is about the song “A Way Out”, I swear I’ve heard it somewhere, but that was my favourite piece of music from the second season of White Lotus. Don’t think it was as good as season 1 but still very much enjoyable.
All this talk of weird, creepy horror though is making want to watch Kill List for the umpteenth time. Not many movies leave me with my jaw dropped when the credits roll but that one certainly hit the mark.
I watched the new Brandon Cronenberg movie, Infinity Pool with Alexander Skarsgard and Mia Goth. Woo boy, what a ride. Sort of like Black Mirror on a bad acid trip. It’s definitely in line with the bleakness and violence of his previous movies, Possessor and Antiviral. It’s maybe a bit too indulgent, but Goth really swings for the fences. And the practical effects are extra goopy.
If I had to pick, I like Possessor slightly better, but I still highly recommend it for those who like their movies weird, dark, and twisted. He’s building up an interesting cinematic vocabulary, and I’m super excited for whatever he wants to do next. I’ll put Cronenberg up there with Ari Aster and Robert Eggers in my list of favorite new directors.
Oh nice, I was hoping to see that soon. He doesn’t always land his punches but he’s one of those people that I’m glad make films (like Strickland, Lanthimos and tons of others including the ones you mentioned!).
Ya I was gonna shut it off at the part I think you’re talking about. But I had to go thru it. It’s good! But that part is super sad. [trying to not give anything away]
I watched Satyajit Ray’s An Enemy of the People aka Ganashatru last night. Funny as I have been reading the Ibsen play off and on for the last year and didn’t make the connection until 15 minutes in. Great film, very much theater turned into cinema, which is rather rare these days.
Black Panther 2
i know this is a recommendation thread, but i’m not sure i would recommend it.
too much scifi, blue people, iron man suits, takes itself very very seriously … while in fact they’re just actors playing dress up in a marvel universe.
i was a little reluctant to watch it (i didnt go to cinema to see it even though i have unlimited card )
i enjoyed everything everywhere all at once much more.
