On re-release… Went to the cinema to see it on the big screen after seeing it at home a couple of years ago.
Beautifully slow burning to start, then :boom:
Good stuff.

Two of my very favorites from the past couple of years. And they get better with every rewatch. Both masterpieces :clap:t2:

I watched Jallikattu yesterday at home, really amazing movie with a lot of energy/action going on. I thought the soundtrack and the camera was really great. Unfortunately I couldnt watch it in original language since the subtitles were not working which is a pity but maybe you find it with subtitles in your prefered language. The plot follows a bull that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a hilly remote village and the entire village men gathering to hunt down the animal.

Also interesting to watch a movie from south india:

This was so good, loved it. Simon Rex is awesome and Sean Baker one of my favorite directors of today. And wonderful cinematography, Texas City makes for a gloomy industrial but amazing cinematic playground for the movie to unfold. Quite a few locals were cast for the film as well.
Highly recommended.

A Cure for Wellness
(netflix)

Here are some recommendations from Sean Baker himself.
Nice to see him talk about what influenced him in his career.

When I was a child, we only had six TV channels. There was a film I saw on Austrian television that always made a big impression on me. In the course of time I have forgotten its name, but certain images have remained vivid in my memory. Through an online forum I found out which film it was. It’s a Czechoslovak sci-fi children’s film and something like Tarkovsky for a young audience. It’s called Tretí sarkan, it’s awesome and you can watch it on youtube:

Not scifi, but any folk horror/fantasy recommendations ala Viy would be great!

Do you have a netflix link ? Can’t find it anywhere

My partner convinced me to watch this with her. I was pretty turned off by it initially- it just tries so hard to be edgy and so many of the characters are really narcissistic- but at some point along the way it started to click with me. Now I’m hooked! While Euphoria can be pretty unsubtle and gratuitous at times, it has moments of thoughtfulness and beauty, and the acting is (mostly) top notch, particularly Zendaya and Hunter Schafer’s performances- Zendaya’s character in season 2, as an opiate addict going through withdrawal, is honestly one of the best performances I’ve ever seen.
