I just watched ‘Where is the Friend’s Home?’

What a rich feast of an adventure, where nothing much happens…and yet everything happens! All from a child’s point of view.

Lovely stuff!

That was annoying!

I just got done watching Dune digitally. COVID’s a bit wild where I am at the mo didn’t end up catching it at the cinemas, which is a bit sad. But I set my place up super sweet and made it as cinematic as possible with popcorn and everything.

I have to say I just thought it was an engrossing modern day spectacle. Denis Villeneuve films are such enjoyable modern day feasts. I wish I could write the guy an email and say cheers bro.

I literally only had one gripe with it, when one of the characters said ‘he’s locked the door’ … when a character locked a door. Super minor quibble, but audiences don’t need to be told things that happen on screen - gosh - the amount of stuff they leave out and expect u to fill the blanks in on story wise and then sometimes feel like they need to make basic stuff more obvious?

Anyway again very minor. 4.5 out of 5 for me. And I guess coz it’s like LOTR1, u just waiting for the next one.

Anyway, bravo. Spectacular stuff.

edit: (didn’t watch a single trailer before viewing, so glad I didn’t)

yeah… hate me for it… but we don’t have another thread for this… it’s not a movie – I know!

Music rules, cinematics rule, mood as well … the “how fucked up is fucked up level” is pretty high in the first episode (don’t watch with your parents!!) – enjoyed it a lot!

EUPHORIA Season 2 just started

I better don’t watch the trailer with the blatant spoiling… like we are used to nowadays.

Not a movie, but a series based on a movie, [based on a skit]

MacGruber! So far it’s really good

a first…the show is WAY better than the trailer

Watched Belle last weekend. It’s Mamoru Hosoda’s take on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. It takes place in virtual reality on the Internet instead of a fairy tale setting. I haven’t seen Disney’s 1991 Beauty and the Best film, but I get the feeling Belle references the Disney work in several places. Minor spoiler: the plot is not faithful to the tale originally written by Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve.

Hosoda hired Jin Kim, who had worked on Disney projects like Frozen, to give his lead character more of a Disney-like look.

I recently saw these films in the theatre.
Lucio Fulci’s horror films are quite surreal, with many murder scenes that have nothing to do with the context of the story. However, the gore scenes in these three films are excellent, so the lack of context has a positive effect.

Some of his work still punches hard today, I remember when I first watched New York Ripper.

enjoying Yellowjackets so far

should we rename this thread?

Since I’m OP I could rename this thread and extend it to TV series … is this a good idea? Or a separate thread rather?

The Yellowjackets team seem to all be fans of Fuller’s Hannibal from various cinematographic nods. Unsurprisingly Fuller is also a fan of Yellowjackets

haha I actually only watch it because I read an article about how Melanie Lynskey (the crazy Rose from Two and a half man - loved her so much in that role!) was body shamed at set  I’m really picky about TV shows – but that one got me. Binge time!

Malignant

A very enjoyable horror film :100:
I would recommend watching it without any information beforehand, if possible.

  1. Living in Seattle, it was fun to see them use the “Underground” as a cheap set
  2. The ending is fun as well!
  3. I wish the rest of the movie was less silly but the end was fun!

I totally agree with you.
I won’t mention the content of the film, but the ending was great!!
Malignant is the culmination of James Wan’s work.

I just watched the new Tragedy of Macbeth. Excellent movie if, like me, you like that kind of thing. One of the better movies I’ve seen in the last couple of years. I was especially impressed with Denzel, he actually made soliloquy feel totally natural.
