MOTU MIDI EXPRESS XT - Set up with Elektrons etc

I just received my new MOTU MIDI XT and I was wondering if anyone else uses one here?
I got sick of daisy chaining my other gear and so iv’e recently bought 3 Elektrons.

My thinking was to just feed all the other synths I have in to the MOTU XT and then straight in to the Octatrack. I have the following gear that I wanna set up.

1 - Octatrack
2- Analog Rytm
3 - Analog 4
4 - Bass Station 2
5 - Novation Nova IIX
6 - Bass Bot TT-303
7 - Korg Radias
8 - Waldorf Pulse 2

If I was just using the 3 Elektrons i’d just daisy chain these but as Iv’e never used the MOTU XT before is this gonna be okay for feeding all the synths above to the Octatrack as my main sequencer? It’s not a big setup like most have but this is what I have to jam about on. I haven’t listed the external FX I have as I just wanna get this lot up and running first.

Anyone using these MOTU’s give me any advice?

Cheers

Rob

Oops also forgot to add the Roland TR-8 so that’s 9 altogether.

Thanks

Rob

Well… The great thing about this setup is that you can mirror the MIDI clock input from one input to be sent to all the outputs so no daisy chaining required. Also in the Clockworks setup you can filter MIDI messages per input / output and route specific inputs directly to specific outputs. Not sure this answers your questions but you can count on your MIDI interfacing of all of your devices being a heck of a lot simpler with the XT.

Thanks for the reply. That’s what i’d hoped to hear. The XT just looked like an easier solution for me i’m happy I invested in it. The reason I bought it was also that it can do standalone and not require the mac. Again thanks for the info.

Hi guys,

I also am using a MOTU midi express XT to send clock to all my devices from the OT without having to daisy chain. This is functioning well for me, though I am experiencing some other challenges I hope you might be able to help with.

Because I have the midi from my various synths routed into the different MOTU cable ports, I’m not sure how to be able to send midi sequencer trigs to my other synths from the OT . For example I have the OT going in Port 1 on the back of my MOTU and my Moog Voyager midi going into Port 3. I’m unaware how to configure either the MOTU software or the OT to be able to send midi messages between the different Ports.

My goal is to be able to both send clock (which is currently working fine) and be able to midi sequence all of my other hardware from the OT (currently not working).

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Anyone use one of these in standalone mode?
