Motas-6 Synth

Just a quick note to let people know about 2 interesting firmware updates which were delivered this year adding the following functionalities:

  • 5 new ‘binary boolean’ Advanced Modulation functions added: LESS, GREATER, AND, OR and XOR.
  • Knob control modes added: JUMP, SNAP and SCALED. SCALED allows single-turn full-range offset control whatever a loaded patch parameter values are set to.
  • LFO tempo sync feature added to all local 37 LFOs (previously was only possible on global LFOs).

The editor was also updated. Everything is listed on their News page.

And more good news: the editor is now Open Source, available on Github: https://github.com/motasSynth/MotasEdit
It’s built with JUCE.

Somehow missed this update in my couple of years being uprooted but my recent experiments with the advanced mod section on this thing have been amazing and the Boolean stuff will definitely open it up even more… it’s pretty cool being able to use the mod section together with the 8 envelopes that can be triggered by sources other than note on to essentially use it as a sequencer that doesn’t have to adhere to any kind of grid

@Petajaja Whenever I see your profile picture as a reply on this topic, I click hoping to listen to some more of your demos with motas-6.
I really think they’re great, so here’s a post hoping you will continue sharing your motas experiments! And thanks for all the previous sharing!

Aw thanks, I do plan to now that things are starting to settle for me a bit, I really do want to show the mod matrix as it’s crazy powerful but yeah, knowing people enjoy the content gives me more motivation

Motas-6 firmware xx011F

  • FEATURE: Added new portamento mode: LEGATO-H (legato hold). This is the same as LEGATO mode except that when keys are released leaving only 1 key down the portamento effect remains.
  • FEATURE: Increased CV filtering range from 99 to 2000.
  • FEATURE: Added new ‘hold’ mode to all LFOs (local and global) - this feature updates the LFO output only when a note is pressed (the internal LFO waveform still updates in the background).
  • FEATURE: Arpeggiator notes now recognised as actual key presses (to sync LFOs).
  • FEATURE: New arpeggiator mode plays current sequence or pattern with note value allowing transpose.
  • FEATURE: New ‘fixed’ parameter map to allow easy control of all selected parameters via e.g. MIDI DAW.
  • FEATURE: Added portamento quantise option.
  • FEATURE: Added encoder button long-press to set parameter to zero on menu pages.
  • BUG-FIX: when setting MIDI note range in setup - step size was too large.

User guide was updated to v1.34 to cover the changes.

Also, it seems Schneidersladen is going to get some stock:

(It should also be available from KMR AUdio in Germany if you ask)

does the area next to the power cable get ridiculously hot for anyone else? CPU stable at 59C but seems quite warm to me.

also when page and value lock are on allowing for knob control of mod parameters, the knob behaviour does not follow what’s selected in setup menu. it’s pickup only which is pretty annoying since it’s already a few steps to get to there, having to pickup the value doesn’t feel good at all interface-wise. if I choose scaled, all knobs should always be scaled.

sound is good. I think envelope editing is too fiddly (in that you have to go to specific page to get there and then either lock the all the knobs to edit that page or edit one by one with the encoder) and just slows down my sound design workflow. buttons 12345 shouldve also had knobs 12345 that were dedicated to whatever you want either global or per page.

Yes
