Moog Muse

fwiw, I haven’t run into any major issues with mine. purchased right after release. I had one lock-up with the original firmware right after I got it, and I think I had to tune it twice (once when I got it, and once right after my studio had been crazy cold). never any of the deeper tuning or calibrations others have mentioned. I am on the latest firmware.

not sure if I just got lucky, the issues haven’t surfaced yet, or I haven’t done enough deep programming…? :man_shrugging:

if you’re concerned, get a new one, so you have a full warranty.

I’ve had no issues either with mine, early adopter, and never once had a tuning issue, or QC issue. It sounds fantastic, and it’s now one of my favorite synths, and probably my favorite Moog after the model D. It has a vintage sound, and it’s easy to achieve a beautiful tone. The overload slider in the mixer is brilliant, and really makes this synth shine at its core. I’m starting to feel like the Muse is a “sleeper” because a lot folks are looking away because of rumors (perhaps based on actual user experiences) of tuning and QC issues. But if that happens to you, just keep returning until you get a “good one”…because mine is bulletproof after 9 months, and 1.3 is solid. Sure I would love an update to add features, but as is, the synth is a sonic and programming playground that really delivers, and has a truly beautiful Moog tone.

I can see how people have zero interest to do that with a quite heavy and expensive piece of gear that you buy to use for decades. Good to hear not everyone’s seems to have issues though!

I can too. I am only saying that you’d be missing out on one of the most compelling synths in recent times to over-look the Muse. It’s probably the best Moog synth in decades, in many ways, IMHO. I think synths sometimes get a reputation, or become an urban legend, based on “reports” made in public enthusiast forums, when the reality is that such reports are in truth a small percentage of buyers of the synth. That’s not to say that the percentage is acceptable in any way…or that the experience those unfortunate folks have had is to be minimized…but now the synth has a bad rep that perhaps exceeds its reality and its worth…and in the big picture I suspect that most buyers never have or report any problems. However, in the event that you would have some issue…I wouldn’t jump to conclude that the Muse is just inherently cursed…rather, if you get a bad unit, get a new one, because it’s a fantastic synth. JHMO, of course.
