Whaaaaaaa???
Wow, that‘s great!
Unfortunately I don‘t have a USB-2-Midi cable or an audio-interface.
Could I somehow use my Digitakt or my Digitone to transfer the sysex from my Mac to my Mother 32?
whoa, that is awsome!
All the new features look nice.
There are now four modes for the interpretation of the Tempo input CV.
Mode #4 looks cool – From the manual:
MODE 4 - STEP ADDRESS CV
In the Step Address CV mode, the sequencer isn’t driven by a clock. Instead, individual sequence steps are selected and played directly based on the CV level received at the TEMPO input. The total CV input voltage range is evenly divided across the number of sequence steps in the pattern. Any input voltage within the range allocated to each step will select that step. When the input voltage crosses the division between one step address and another, the new step is played. Smaller voltage changes which do not cross a boundary between step addresses have no effect. A ramp LFO will play the sequence normally, and will be synced to the ramp LFO rate. Experiment with patching in different modulation sources to find fun new playing techniques.
NOTE: While in Step Address CV mode, a changing voltage at the TEMPO input will override normal playback. Pressing the RUN / STOP button will restore normal playback until / unless the voltage at the TEMPO input changes again.
Pay attention to the Note at the end !
So you can play a sequence and then send a new sequence in a custom CV stream, and then go back again. Very cool.
ADDED: You will have to do something special to stay synched though.
So one way to use this is to select your sequence from a particular scale or chord in a particular key. Then you can play in that key and scale with a LFO doing a sample and hold function. Fifteen steps could be two octaves of a normal 8 note scale.
I could also see serial music sorts of variation using tone rows etc.
Sure you can do all this with Eurorack, but it’s nice this functionality has been added to the M32.
What else is new and fun with the new firmware?
Ignore MIDI start/stop!! Wooooo!
Everything else to me is a sweet bonus. I haven’t even looked at the rest.
Ive sent Moog a letter thanking them and requesting in the next update the ability to sequence, as opposed to specific notes, number of semitones so that we can play modes with patterns. Or maybe I’m stupid and there’s already a way to do this…
So another way to use Mode #4.
Have two stepped LFOs.
One going slowly is stepped across the entire voltage range, except a little bit at the top.
The other is going faster, at the note rate you want. with a much smaller voltage range.
By adding these two stepped LFOs together you would select out and play sub-portions of the larger sequence you put in the M32.
Again there are other ways to do this. But nice to add this to the M32.
