I know there are many cheaper clones.
Some of which come in eurorack format cough
Nonetheless, yesterday’s noodle was a reminder of just how massive the sound coming from oversized, 5U components really is.

What a sound! Fantastic to see you are still enjoying it. I love the Model 10, and dearly wish I’d gotten a 15 as well (and a Sequencer complement… I would have gotten the latter if I’d known both Mos-Lab and Synthesizers.com 960 clones would eventually be unavailable
)
Fantastic.
This is my dream setup also… I am saving for a Model 10!
But I am running out of space. ![]()
I think one can still get the Complement B second hand, they come up once in a while.
Thank youuu
I’m hoping that’s the case when I can afford to plump for one. Though I do have the Synthesizers.com variants in my large 5U system, I am also considering building a clone in a Moon Modular Moog case. Either way, it’s gonna be a while.
I’m using the GRP R24 recently and it’s been pretty damn good.
Although Im a sucker for uniformity. Imagine the 10,15 and complement next to each other…
I do. daily.
Sound very good! What do you mean by “the sound coming from oversized 5U components”?
5U is a larger standard compared to eurorack for example (3U).
The Moog re-issues are all the larger standard, with bigger components (all thru hole) and use bigger/sturdier 1/4 inch cables etc… no need to cram so many IC’s and transistors into a tiny footprint…
This gives it a bigger sound/better audio fidelity (to my ears at least).
I have plenty of eurorack moog clones, namely stuff from the AJH line which sounds fantastic… but the dynamic range on the re-issue sounds better/bigger.
It sounds better than a lot of other 5U, too.
(though I think that’s more to do with the overall design rather than the size or placement of the components)
I’ve had some AJH stuff too and they do sound lovely.
I didn’t know that the components used in 5U are bigger.
I asked bcs I remember reading somewhere that the components on 3U and 5U would be the same, confusing.
Not everything of course…
But in general 5U tends to have better build quality and the larger space accommodates for larger jacks and sturdier cables. It’s also easier to work with and diagnose… I’d say components are similar depending on what you get.
The Moog re-issues are faithful to the original and using a process no longer available that cant be replicated in Eurorack format due to lack of parts and less real estate.
Dieter said, “Delete!”
nah dont say that! this forum is all about sharing…
Sick
I don’t want to be tedious but I’m still kinda confused.
What is this process that’s no longer available and how are they able to do it?
Been watching some videos of the Model 15 on YT and I must say the sound is unreal.
I’m not a Moog engineer… I can only vouch for the sound/experience but…
Modules are made as the originals were, by hand-stuffing and hand-soldering components to circuit boards using traditional wiring techniques specific to the circuitboards of that era. They spent 3yrs researching, designing and sourcing parts.
Check out these circuitboards
old school…
This is the backside….
Using all of the original documentation, as well as the original circuit board and art files based on their 1973 factory specifications.
The size of the modules/circuitboards i guess also helps spread out the circuits rather than stuff them in a eurorack module which may not be feasible.
Do you work for Behringer?

Objectively… its a damn piece of art…
Thank you for clarifying that. Those boards do look like art.
It must be a great experience playing that instrument for many reasons.
Let’s start with money
