First real test-drive of the newly upgraded Roland MC-202 by @tubbutec Tried to use it in an IDM context along with the Monomachine SFX-6 (serial no #243, used for pad sounds and FM-drums) and my favorite drum machine, the Machinedrum. I haven’t used the 202 that much yet - but I every time I switch on this little box, I am surprised how fat and lush it sounds. Much more versatile than I initially expected and super fun to use with one slider per function functionalities. The 2oh2-upgrade adds so much (step probability matrix for gates and modifiers, different playhead directions, patterns, super easy to use song-mode, an advanced arpeggiator…). I’d never wanna miss it. Live recorded in a single take on 1010 Bluebox. Delay and reverb added here.
Beautiful piece, mate. I’m going to check out more of your tunes as well. Are you still using the same Monomachine you got as an intern?
Also, kudos to you for finding a balance between work and art.
My best teacher showed me that I could take my love for eastern thought and use it as an academic study, which also bridged my, at the time, life as an athlete (Sacred Hoops by Phil Jackson, the Tao Te Ching, and works from Rumi, Li Po, and Lao Tsu - These all made me sensitive to different perspectives and I think made me a more coachable human being. And a somewhat decent leader.).
I even built a project with some students where they learned Ableton Live, recorded their voices and created an instrumental. For once, I felt a real bond between the two sides of my life.
This sounded like a super gratifying moment. We need more folk like you (actually especially like you) in education roles. But I imagine they would get a kick out of a course on Autechre, with a workshop or performance of some sort.
No probs. If you are looking for something like the monomachine - previously a misunderstood and previously undesired oddball synth - take a look at the Polyend tracker +.
Seriously underrated gem and the UI reminds me of the MD and MNM.
It’s a flow state.
First deliveries in August 2003. I The website was there months before release, as a teaser.
I checked my archives. The original release was scheduled for June 2003, but was delayed. So the 100 first units (sold as betas) were available from 15th of September 2003. I travelled to Gothenbrurg and picked mine up in the first week of October.
The website was up months before release iirc, with just a tiny image in the center, and no info.
