something I enjoy a lot about the MNM that’s often overlooked is the audio routing/bussing that gives interesting combinations of serial and parallel processing with good control over how the track outputs are assigned to each physical output. Even if using the reverb or phaser takes up an entire track it still has all the sound sculpting available that any other track gets - 3 LFOs, plocks, eq, filter, envelopes, distortion, delay etc.
Hi fam! (: Back with a new monomachine video, NEWROMANCER. Been chipping away at this for the last year, building the tune bits by bits in song mode. It’s been super inspiring listening to what everyone’s monomachine sounds like here and really enjoy the presentation of it all. Here’s my presentation of the monomachine. ![]()
The end switch up bit features a new monomachine tune I started on while working on the video and decided to just throw it in for fun. Cheers!
Wow what a way to return. Fantastic track and video. ![]()
P.S. love the red boots ![]()
Also how did you make the voice sound that comes in around 1:40 ? Nice sound design ![]()
haha thanks matt! this one for you.
that voice sounds is just wavetable stuff – i believe the adventure kid wavetables into 2 ddrw tracks, 2-4 lfo’s oscillating between waveforms on both side – which creates for some interesting textures if you get it right, some widening for detuning and low note triggers from another track to create that occasional depth.
@Landobe what decision did you end up making about getting the monomachine?
I pulled the trigger and got the MD and the MnM ![]()
They are exactly what i was hoping for. I love the possibilities of the monomachine with slide trigs, bus routing and fx that you can parameter lock. I just dont get it, why elektron did not implement these features on their newer boxes. Now that I can compare the digitone with the monomachine it is a bit clearer to me, what my initial question was about: the digitone 2 is really powerful and you can create a vast range of sounds, but to me personally it feels sterile and somehow too precise. It does exactly what I put into it. The MnM however is really a box of wonder to me. Just for example the filter envelopes, I love that it does behave totally unpredictable and starts screaming when tutning these knobs ![]()
Sure the MnM is much more limited in options but this is something I actually prefer, helps me keeping focus.
Also its restrictions in terms of microtiming, scales and polyrythms are fine for me, forces me to be creative in other ways.
I will keep my digitone 2 though. Adds something different to the MD/MnM palette.
Thanks for all your feedback, I am happy ![]()
awesome, show us some examples of whatever interesting things you come up with then! maybe you could sequence the monomachine via opal-ctrl, like you have done with other vsts in some other threads i saw you in
Thanks! Thats actually a great idea.
here’s a link to the MnM discord server if that’s you’re thing. We have lots of good resources for learning and sysex downloads in the library section.
Great! Thanks for sharing. Joined ![]()
Ha, found an old player yesterday that had a load of Monomachine stuff on from the mid to late '00s. Can’t work out whether I’ve progressed or the opposite!
i recently discovered “scratching” on the monomachine lmao
I wrote this text about my relationship with the MonoMachine adding some of my personal sound design tests in audio.
I wanted to let people know there’s a 1400 dollar monomachine in what appears to be mint condition for sale on Craigslist in Chicago. I don’t have the funds for it now or the time to drive 4 hours to buy it, but it seems like a crazy deal so hopefully someone picks it up.
whats the setup here besides live editing 1ENV? sounds really cool.
my last session on the grey box
For those who have had the latest and greatest, would you flip a Digitakt and Digitone MK2 to own a Monomachine?
Yep but depends on your genre though.
Monomachine is more of an exploration with different input tracks and effects.
Kinda a minimal undertaking….like here is a high hat or simple fm bass - what can it sound like it you when do x,y,z.
The digitone is modern and maximalist.
