Can anyone recommend a Monitor.Speaker for turntable and Synth. I want to do some mixing but i just need something like 2 speakers/monitors for synthwork and turntable sampling. Sort of dual purpose i know. Many thanks.
Budget is £300 max

I’ve got a pair of Focal Alpha 65 monitors that would fit the bill here. They have dual inputs too.
Have a look in the For Sale section if you’re in the UK.
Cheers. The cheapest is almost blowing my budget. Would one be better than two in my case. I know i lose the panning but is that really important in editing??
JBL 305. In my opinion, you can’t beat them for the price, and they should be right around your budget. I use them for mixing, and they aren’t so sterile, that I also use them for listening as well.
Agreee that the JBL 300 series is hard to beat for the $£€ outlay.
A single 306p MK2 can really bump, low end going down to the mid 40s.
Nothing wrong with rocking mono for a while and using headphones for the stereo details. And if you feel the need in the future, buy a second.
Some dealers here sell direct JBL b-stock. Huge deals if that’s also available in your neck of the woods.
Cheers guys. So 2 of these are in my budget. They seem very cheap how do they hold up to the slightly more expensive KRK for example. Im not an audiophile just want solid build and sound.
My ears trust the JBL more.
Specifically, they fatigue less and the mixes translate better.
The JBL 300 series sounds about 90% as flat as the Genelec 8000 series, with slightly more ear fatigue (but nothing like KRK) for much less. They really do outclass many others until you get to the $1000/pair range.
Cheers Adam When you said 306 did you mean 305 as per link i showed? Cheers.
No, there’s a 306p MKII with 6.5" driver. Doesn’t cost too much more and extends the low end a bit with a more powerful amp. (although it looks like at Anderton’s the price difference is considerable, so shop around)
Thomann mistakenly listing it as a 6" driver. It’s 6.5"
These are only $150USD on Amazon right now.
https://www.krksys.com/Studio-Monitors/ROKIT-5-G4
KRK ROKIT-5-G4 - Good mix between Studio- and DJ-Monitor, w. bass-reflex port on the front, which makes positioning of the monitors much easier, even in non-treated listening environments.
Or $105 + tax if you call ProAudioStar and ask for a b stock deal
They have 308p pairs for $299 bstock but they’re gigantic.
I would take advantage of that RIGHT NOW if it wasn’t for my wife and kiddo be home with me every day for the forseeable future Till then it’s my trusty AKG 240s.
guilty of ordering a single 306p to use with our turntable, and also around the house for various jam setups
Nice. These are my everyday listening speakers but wouldn’t want to make critical mixing decisions on them.
That maybe the best option. Just one. Why do i need two as my room is small anyway. Cheers.
Ps. Do you sample from your turntable?
I do not. Most of my records are old 70s original pressing dub reggae records which I’ve been able to find digital versions of, fortunately.
Ironically JBL 305p MKII are $40 off at musicians friend. $109.
The 305s look very appealing at that price in UK. How much low end will be lost? I wont be playing it very loud due to family. Is it worth buying two 305’s vs one 306?
