Model:Samples does not connect with computer

Hello, I can not connect to my M:S to computer. The computer does not recognize M:S.
I’m using a Mac mini Apple M2 Pro, 13.6.7 (22G720)
I also tried an older MacBook and a windows laptop - none of them recognized the M:S ;- (
The unit is directly connected to the computer via usb.
I also tried 2 different USB cables.
Always the same: Transfer 1.7.8. always shows “No MIDI input available”
M:S has OS1.12 at the moment. And I want to upload my own samples into the unit.
Please help! I also read similar topics here but no really solution…

I contacted the user care and followed all instructions:

First, I would suggest installing the latest version of Transfer available here: …
Make sure when trying to connect to Transfer, your device is set to MID in Config Menu - Device - USB MODE
Please try if the following helps:

  1. Disconnect your USB device, count to 5 and then plug it back in.
  2. In the upper-left of the screen, click the Apple menu, and select About This Mac.
  3. In the window that appears, click on System Report. A new window will open.
  4. A System Report window will be displayed. On the left-hand side of the window, under Hardware, select USB.
  5. On the right, you will see all of your available USB buses and their connected devices. You can expand each bus by clicking on the arrow next to it.
  6. If your USB device is connected, you should see it displayed under one of these.
  7. If you do not see your device listed here, disconnect it, and select File > Refresh Information. This will make the computer rescan the ports. Connect your device to the computer again, and select Refresh Information a second time. Your device should hopefully appear.

NOTHING HELPED… :weary:

Please help!

Thank you, cheers, Mika

What type of cable are you using?

If you check the specs you will see that the hardware port is listed as “hi speed USB 2.0 micro B port”, so I think unless you use a USB hi speed cable, it won’t connect.

I bought a modelCycles second hand and no cable made it worked till I purchased one with those specs, and if I’m not mistaken, I think this is probably the key thing with the original one

I had the same issue on a windows PC and the problem was the USB cable. I bought mine second hand without the elektron USB cable and went through all my USB cables until I found one that works.

If the M:S doesn’t appear in the “About this Mac” > “System report” > “USB”

I would say it could be, at least, two things:

  1. The usb cable
  2. The M:S internal configuration

To check the 2, besides setting MID in the Config Menu > Device > USB Mode, try also to go to Config Menu > Ports and set:

Imp from: M + U (¶)
Out to: M + U

¶ Model:Samples listen to MIDI data sent to both the MIDI IN and USB ports.

oh, yes, it is the cable! I can’t believe, it is SUCH a difference in this normal USB cable!
Thank you for helping me! The 5th one I tried worked!
But that is not a big plus for Elektron…
Cheers

There are different types of USB cables, and the type needed is specified in the user manual, just a bit at the end… but it is there.

I’m glad you get it working

I’ve just been through this myself, having bought a used M:S off eBay and trying to connect to my Mac M2.
First thing: I hadn’t previously realised that the small, older type of usb had 2 types, Mini and Micro (I’d thought they were the same thing as they look similar)
I didn’t have a C to Micro cable but having several C to C cables, I bought an adapter; C to Micro, which fortunately is correct type.
I’ve now discovered that not all C to C cables are equal ! -with the first I tried, the Mac didn’t see the M:S, but fortunately another I had worked.

So if you’re here having similar issues, keep trying different cables
