Model Cycles out of stock?

Absolutely not, but it’s the first time I’ve seen you disclose your source  With this background, it’s easier to take your claims seriously. Interesting peak into the Elektron world.

But since they actually went through and built that platform, I wonder why they didn’t expand it with more instruments based on the same concept and tooling… the major investment was already done?

Just seen this on Reddit, so I’d probably take it with a grain of salt.

Rip?

Yup, supporting that, right now, M:S and M:C are still in the current catalog, not legacy yet.

@Ess also explained elsewhere in the forum that the M:C has less oversampling(?) than ST and DN resulting in a less polished sound. More gritty. I also really like it and was not able to accurately recreate my M:C sounds on ST.

same here - this is why I sold Syntakt and kept MC +ARMK2

Yes, all of the engines in M:C run at the base sample rate of 48kHz except for Tone which is oversampled. Personally I’ve gone back and forth on oversampling FM (phase modulation) and found that I prefer a well-tuned base rate engine rather than an oversampled one. Depends on what type of sound you are after though.

One of my favorite FM engines as of late happens to be a 16-bit fixed point implementation running at 32768 Hz, go figure :person_shrugging:

Regarding compression or “glue” on the Cycles – it’s actually just standard digital clipping. You’d be surprised how good that can sound on certain material. A lot of distortion effects and plugins etc go to great lengths to reduce the amount of aliasing you get from clipping and other forms of saturation, but in some cases it can actually sound quite nice.

But as with most things sound, it’s often about the gesamtkunstwerk rather than the individual components. I would say that the Cycles has a specifically tuned aesthetic and type of sound generation that lends itself well to the clipping that can occur more easily due its lower headroom.

(I’m certain I’ve already gone over this on the forum back in the day, hopefully no one at Elektron feels that I am revealing anything)

is this specific to the Model Cycle or also valid for the Model Samples?

I notice a lot of things out of stock lately. M:C, favorite sardines. It’s crazy!

From which we can surmise that Sardines are no longer being fished.

That’s a total bummer dude!

I was always more of a mackerel guy anyway.

Unfortunately those have availability issues as well. Better start liking trout.

Wouldn’t touch it with yours.

However, the point about headroom doesn’t apply to the Model:Samples.

wait is this because of the viral tin fish tiktok videos?
someone told me about this and I thought it must be bs…

I hope no one is eating MCs.

No clue, I don’t have TikTok

Wow @reeloy is spitting Buad style. I really like “filled investment pockets for heaps of future courage” and “total overstretch of all Swedish inner logistics.” Definitely going to save those.

If it’s discontinued, I don’t think that has anything to do with this insider information, but it’s still interesting. I guess the relevant part would be that the company wouldn’t want to compete with themselves if people are using the Models instead of the more expensive instruments, or a forthcoming higher margin budget line. From a form factor perspective, having a flagship in a Model case is pretty appealing.
