Model cycles as a master midi sequencer for a 303 clone

Hi. I have a behringer td-3 (303 clone)
Im finding the cycles a great way to send midi sequences to seq the td-3, bypass the internal 303 seq as you can dial in overlapping note lengths in gate mode
,which you cannot do with a beatstep pro for example
Does anyone know anyways you can modulate the pitch, vol or note length of midi notes going out to external synths ?

Ive tried tying the lfo to the gate but not hearing any noticable changes to a sequence that has gate lengths

You can try changing the velocity to trigger accents, you may need to lower the outgoing velocity on all other steps for the accent to trigger and be heard though.

I’m pulling up your TD3 manual but it’s probably pretty basic control, like under 50% velocity no accent, over 50% with accent, so play around and see where the threshold is set. I’m just guessing though.

I’ll take a look and see if there’s anything else useful here. Modulate Pitch? Unlikely. Modulate note length? Not sure but unlikely.

At any rate, MC sequencer only sends note and velocity. That’s it. All CC sent over midi have to be played in realtime via the knobs using the CC tables in the manual’s midi implementation chart, but I’m as of yet uncertain that the TD3 receives CC at all.

The quick start guide is basically useless. I found a page with some midi info for requesting pattern change and some setup stuff via sysex. You can apparently set the accent note velocity threshold to whatever is your preference if you don’t like where it’s set now.

I don’t see any indication that it responds to cc so I would assume sysex is your only option. I think accent and slide are all that you can really hope for right now but if velocity is a midi destination on the MC LFO then try setting that with various waveforms and push the depth until you hear something happening.

Thanks for your ideas , im getting accent with the volume changes to midi note so that isnice

,ill explore the lfo menu and see f i can route it to velocity and it slides between notes when you overlap long notes legato style

In my hesd i thought it would be cool if you could link lfo to note length but im not sure that is possible to external synths

The td-3 has a app to set it up but its pretty basic tbh

Yeah, I think that these may be the best that you can hope for. I know that on digitakt you can modulate sample length but I don’t think model cycles has an LFO destination for trig length. If you could modulate envelope, like the hold, parameter then it would possibly work but I don’t think that’s going to be a midi destination on the TD3 as it would certainly be a CC parameter.

You could manipulate legato between notes as you noted, and I don’t know what kind of CV implementation the TD3 has but if you’ve got a korg sq-1 or something that can use to sequence it via CV maybe you could play around with that to change gate length. As far as the model cycles you might be up against a wall though.

Good luck
