Mod wheel, pitch bend wheel and sustain pedal

Hello friends.

I have just bought this thing and I’m getting crazy with a midi problem

3 machines single setup. Nothing special.

Tonverk as brain
XV3080 as sounds source
Wavestate as midi controller only

I can’t get to work the mod and pitch wheels and suastain pedal from the Wavestate in to the XV3080. Only the keybed and the octave switch works from the Wavestate.

Through midi thru everything works but then I can’t sequence the XV3080.

Any ideas please?

Thank you.

Hi,
i guess it is not because of your setup, but how the midi signals are handled in the Tonverk.
I can observe the same behavior.
My Setup:
A:
Arturia Keystep 32 → MIDI IN-Tonverk MIDI OUT —> Waldorf Blofeld
MIDI Key signals are transferred from Keytep, MIDI Signals from TV to Blofeld works as expected
no Pitch, ModWheel nor Aftertouch from Keytep, but TV

B:
Arturia Keystep 32 —> MIDI IN-Tonverk MIDI THRU —> Waldorf Blofeld
Modwheel, Pitch and Aftertouch and Key from Keystep works, MIDI from TV is not transmitted

Software 1.2.1
Changes in Midi Config like Auto Channel etc do no change.

Thank you for your reply.

If this limitation is confirmed, my Tonverk is going straight back to the store.

I think that’s a basic requirement.

on other devices don’t you need to enable these controllers within the MIDI Track that will talk to the Synth … this is being filtered from the Outs deliberately, i am sure you usually need to enable Transmission of the respective message - just like you need to enable a selected MIDI channel and enable it

I’m unclear whether this functionality is fleshed out in Tonverk but it would be covered in the MIDI track section of the manual

Sustain Pedal is never picked up by the Elektrons afaicr, again, this is deliberate - what you may be able to do is try the CC, but what teh controlling keyboard does is extend the note so that the note off is delayed - TV won’t see teh control pedal input - so i don’t think it will ever be listened to

But for At MW PB etc, check these are not filtered out on the MIDI track settings

It’s the same with my Syntakt. Aftertouch and other controllers don’t work when midi from my Keystep goes through the Syntakt on it’s way to my Protein.

Ok, I got it to work.
like @avantronica mentioned, it needs to be enabled!
Go to func+trig
then to modulation wheel and there you can configure what should happen if the TV receives the corresponding signal,

Tested and verified with Modulation wheel.
Now it changed for me like “me, but no deal breaker” to "what for a cool feature, now i can decide what will happen!

Thanks to @avantronica!

I will try this tonight.
How about the pitch bend wheel?

The pitch bend was not working for me. But here I’m not sure if the source of the problem a wrong config in my keystep is.
After Touch works quite well.

Does it also work on an extern synth, that you have connected to the Tonverk’s midi out?

@Bergfotron
I just checked it.
It was a misconfiguration on my keystep why pitchbend was not working (midi channel was set wrong for pitch bend?!).

After I configured it correctly it worked with my Blofeld.

Furthermore, even if you have configured the midi handling you have to enable it.
If it is crossed out, it doesnt work. If it is enabled it works.

That’s swell, but it wasn’t the thing i was thinking about : ) - for the purposes of MIDI control the MIDI machine has an ability to toggle functionality of various default controllers (and your own additional custom ones)

You can e.g. see in this Screenshot of the manual - that Breath Control hasn’t been enabled, but the other main ones have

That facilitates (or filters) - MIDI throughput of incoming Controller data

Note in the text, these all default as off - i.e. Filtered !

Yeah, reading the manual can help sometimes
But at first glance it was not clear for me, that the filtering is also for incomming the midi signals.

Does it also work on the Blofeld when you play the Keystep, with the Tonverk in the middle?
Can the Keystep control either the Tonverk or the Blofeld with aftertouch etc, without repatching the midi-cables?

Yes exactly.
I can manipulate modwheel, pitch and aftertouch via TN and/or keystep.
Is it working for you too?

I don’t have the TV yet, but I’ll se if I can get it to work on my Syntakt.

How do you change this MW value?

Sorry. It is my first day with Tonverk.

@Cercle
Simply by pressing the yes button. When i got it right, you have to route e.g. mod wheel to mod wheel and set it to 1.00.
Here, I created a vid for you. Its not the best quality, but maybe it helps (@Bergfotron maybe this is interesting for you too)

Thanks a lot for this video @marv88.

I’ve now managed to get the MW and PB knobs on the screen to move, but I still can’t hear it on the XV3080.

I have also discovered that this trick doesn’t works if the track is set as midi track.

Last night I drank too much beer and got completely frustrated with the background noise coming from the Tonverk’s audio input. I plugged my XV3080 directly into it, and the slightest increase in gain produces a horrible background noise.

But that’s another story. Today I’ll review this video again to see if I can figure it out. Is the sound coming from the Waldorf?

Hi @Cercle ,
strange, I set it as a Midi Track (like in the video) or did i got it wrong?
Do you have another device to check the noise?
Yes, the sound comes from the waldorf and is routed into the TV.
I do not hear any noise in my setup with my walfdorf. Maybe there is a problem with the power supplies? (i do not use the power suppllies of the TV nor blofeld, I use a usb-c psu with two outputs and a usb-c power adapter for the blofeld).

Nice find @marv88, I couldn’t imagine that midi parameters could be modulation destinations !

That’s unique to Tonverk !
Unfortunately still not possible to record these midi events (PB AT MW BC)

I can confirm it works on tracks 1-8, not on busses 9-12.
