MM slave + MD

Hello, first post here. Did a search but could not find what I was looking for.

I want to sync MM and MD. I want MD audio to run through MM.

MM is midi slave to MD and this is working fine.

I want the MD audio outputs AB to run through FX channel on MM Track 6 and output through MM AB.

This is the problem. I am getting MD sounds through the MM but they are not ‘clean’. The MD Kick and all sounds are lacking proper low end when they come through MM.

MM Track 6 is FX Thru with input AB and output AB. The Dec, Rev, Att are all set as per the MM user instructions.

Is this a balanced versus un-balanced cable issue? The cables are un-balanced. The MM master output sounds are working fine.

What is MM doing to the MD sounds?

Is there some setting I am missing?

Thanks in advance for your valuable time helping to resolve this for me. : )

My MnM is not in front of me (14,000km away :frowning: ) so forgive me if the instructions are less than ideal, but have you turned off key tracking?

Go to edit the kit, open the joystick editing area, and on the right you will get to key tracking.

Hi Paul, I run MD through MnM all the time. I’ll check this out on my gear asap, but some basic troubleshooting first:

Check the filter on your MnM Thru machine. Is it completely open? Any Q or offsets that are nonzero?

How about your INP level on the synthesis page? The VOL on the Amp page? Try them both at default settings.

Re the cables, is your gear mark 1 or 2? Don’t know if unbalanced cables would matter here, but the outputs on mark 1 models are not balanced, mark 2 are.

… If none of this helps, try creating a new pattern and kit from scratch on the MnM and set it up per the manual again, see if you still have the same trouble.

Hello, many thanks for the replies. I will check to see if the suggestions resolve the issue.

Both my machines are MK II. Both my machine outputs work fine when sent directly to the speakers and those cables are unbalanced. The output from the MD Thru the MM is the issue, so I wonder if the cables could be the issue.

Thanks and I will let you know the outcome. Anyone else with any suggestions, no matter how trivial, they are more than welcome. : )

It’s the filter key tracking. I’ve had the same problem. The trigs on the track you are using for the input have a note, and that note determines the frequency of the HPF / LPF filters (base and width). Turn off key tracking and it’ll sound fine.

Here is a blog entry I wrote about it.

Many thanks for the reply. I will look at that setting tomorrow. It is great that people check the forum and offer their help.

I will let you all know the outcome. Nice1 : )

Hello

Update time and thanks time!

Thanks to everyone who replied. I learned a lot from trying to solve this issue.

But, hats off to Josh Ejosh, you nailed it straight off with the answer the problem - with off the keys on the FX Thru Track! I really appreciate your help. I also like your blog about putting a live set together. Record it and put it on Soundcloud so we can listen to it (no pressure).

Now I have 2 other questions.

Question 1 - when I find a sound I like when pressing a trigger, how do I get that sound to sequence? I can sequence sounds, but when I switch on the sequencer, I can’t get that sound I wanted to sequence. I can find the sound by going up or down through the notes, but can I get it immediately? There must be a quick way - I’ve tried holding Function and the Trigger before hitting record and loads of other options.

Question 2 - Sound is coming out of the MD and also out of the MM separately. But why can I (now, new issue:)) not get any sound through the FX Thru Track on the MM. MD is feeding into the MM. I have no idea! I have re-set the devices and everything!

Again, any suggestions are welcome and all replies appreciated.

Thanks and have a nice evening. : )

Hi PaulDaly
I try to answer your questions …
Question 1:
IN Grid recording mode (rec LED lit)> copy notes (hold trig + rec)> past notes (hold trig + stop)
Question 2:

If you have the manual: routing on page 82

cheers
ach

Thanks Ach.

Question 1
I can find the note by searching for it in Grid Recording, but is there some way when I play a note not in Grid Recording and getting it to play in Grid Recording? Basically, I had an Analog Keys, when I played a note I liked, I could then put that note in the sequencer by hitting record.

Question 2
What I have done, is activate all of the triggers for the FX Thru AB Track. It works perfectly. But it makes no sense! Anyway, I can work on MD+MM projects so there is no stress. : ) But it’s a workaround I think!

Thanks very much for your reply. Have a good weekend. Tomorrow I will be snowboarding in Morzine France for 5 days!

Nice 1
