MM questions

Maybe stupid questions but let’s go.

  1. Did someone trade an A4 to get a MM and why ? Or did somemone sell his A4 and keep his MM

  2. is the midi sequencer independant from the internal one . It’s not so clear for me in the manual and i’m afraid by the sentence "The internal sequencer also transmits MIDI " and it seems not possible to set internal tracks to channels 1 to 6 and midi tracks to channels 7 to 12 for example.

  3. regarding the audio inputs, can we use one track only to input real stereo audio (the MD needs two dedicated tracks)

  4. regarding the audio input again, does the MM downgrade the audio quality of the input gear? ( i had a MD and never found that it downgraded audio quality of inputs)

  5. is it a good idea to buy a MM now ?

Now more explanations. I have an OT, an A4, a Nord Drum 2 and a Nova. I’m in love with OT and ND2 but never been impressed by A4 sound (pattern sequencer and reverb are perfect and i have no issue about audio input). I much prefer the sound of DSI Evolver which I owned and missed a lot. The A4 doesn’t click me.

If answers to questions 2 and 3 are yes and answer to question 4 is no, the Nord Drum 2 could be the perfect companion to MM as ND 2 has 6 midi channels (and the Nova too). The idea could be to sequence ND2 with MM and inputs its sound in MM. Audio outputs of MM into let says inputs A/b of the OT. OT would be dedicated to midi sequence other gears, my Nova for example but could be an Evolver, Tetra or Blofeld for ex.

I know that this new config would imply sacrifices like for example the sequencer of the A4 or its fantastic Reverb.

  1. Pair a MM with a Midi capable Analog synth and you are good to go.
    (Mopho, Bass Station, Moogs)

  2. 6 MM synths and up to 6 external Midi devices … Synths samplers whatever you own and each has its own Midi track. This is more than I need to have a good time. For example I can use 2 MM tracks for drums 4 for synth sounds fx, drones or leads. Then on the external Midi tracks.
I can have a sampler a few Mono synths a Blofeld for pads. you get the picture. I think only the OT can do that but but instead of internal Synth you have samples.

3)I don’t use the input thru tracks often but had a great time mangling a loop once and it sounded great. I think its 24 bit converters on the Mk II so it should sound great. Yes it uses one track, called the Thru machine.

  1. I feel the MM is Timeless if you want to work out of the box
it’s a real great SEQ and really hands on. Just keep the manual on the bedside and read a bit every so often.

Anyhow I love the MonoMachine and would love to have all the Elektron Gear. But for me The MM works best to control ,my setup.

Depends on your setup and work flow.

the lfos on the internal tracks are used on the external tracks

one strange limitation I found

a few other that cant remember atm

Thanks a lot for the answers

Oh… Another question : does the MM record the CC inputs ( from a QuNexus for example) ?

It can record up to 4 CCs that have been assigned to one of the 6 midi tracks.
