Hello guys.
When I turn on my Analog Four MK1, the screen slowly flashes on and off. This happened suddenly and without any warning. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thank you.
Replace the screen, a spare isn’t expensive but labour might be, unless you’re handy with a soldering iron. You can get a nice coloured one, or a black screen with white text like the Digis have.
Thank you, but I’m not sure if it’s a screen damage issue.
Hard to tell definitely from your description, but safe so assume the screen is dying or the connector is failing.
Hi, if you can make a little video, it will be easier to give an opinion. Did it only happen once?
My first thing I would look at, is the power connection to the wall, and to the device in the DC jack on the back of the mk1. See if it’s loose, or not completely plugged in.
Also, if the PSU is the type with the brick in the middle, I think the larger center cable that goes to the wall can also be unplugged.
Just make sure they’re all snug and tight, because it’s probably either screen failing, or it experienced a power surge from inconsistent power which could potentially cause a flickering, however usually it would also crash the device, so did the A4 restart after the flicker? Or the screen just stayed normal?
Be sure you’re not powering off and on too quickly. I believe it’s recommended twenty seconds between power intervals.
Thank you. The screen keeps turning on and off at a constant rate, so it won’t start even if you wait. Therefore, if you turn it off and then turn it on again after a while, the same thing happens again.
Try to enter test mode by holding down the func button while turning on the machine. If it continues to do this behavior as it loads into test mode, the screen is probably bad.
You can try a different power supply, or if you are brave you can open the device and unplug the boards using the flat cables inside and then inspect the terminals for any oxidation. If they are oxidized you could clean the copper part that connects the plugs together using a little bit of electronics cleaner, but after that without some electrical skills, you will soon be at the end of the road for what you can do at home.
If you get into test mode with no flashing, I think you should contact elektron by filling out the form on the website and ask them for some help troubleshooting.
It would be very rare for something like this to be caused by bad firmware, but if test mode shows fine and it only does this while the device is powered on then I don’t know, maybe.
If you do get into test mode, see if you can run the error test and see if it gives an error code, that might be helpful when talking to elektron support.
I think unfortunately it’s probably a screen failure that just happened suddenly, so sorry if that’s the case and good luck.
If you need a new screen consider this replacement, as it is brighter, faster and more easy to replace once installed. Bonus: you can choose different colours
Yeah I think a key question is whether this is a problem with the screen itself, or whether the unit is in a boot loop or something similar.
Test mode could be a clue. And checking ribbon cable connections and etc. could be a good relatively risk free thing to try regardless.
It also definitely could be a power thing — trying a different adapter and outlet is also a good easy check.
Yes, that’s right. I don’t have the device with me right now, but in the case of yesterday’s issue, the screen was blinking slowly at regular intervals, so I think it’s very likely that it was a boot loop.
