Hi all, i have a yamaha MG20XU desk and my Octrack main outs run to one of the channels. My issue is that I wish to record any signal that comes out of my desk. i have used AUX 1 and 2 to A and B of the OT- get flamming effect and feedback. Also tried from main stereo outs, monitor mix outs and control room outs and rec out. All of which give me a feedback loop? Even if i unselect the channel the OT is on, I still get feedback via the OT when i sampling mode?
Any tips on my mixer routing please? It is driving me mad
I doubt whether your mixer routing is the problem. Using the aux sends and returns will be just fine if you set up the OT correctly. (Edit to mention: you might find it useful to use the MG20XU’s Group outputs to send signals to the OT. Just make sure that you don’t route the channels with the OT’s output to the Group that sends to the OT.)
It may be that you have the DIRect level for inputs A & B turned up in addition to the listening to the sampled sound. Try turning down the AB DIR level in the Mixer Menu.
Read more in the manual (pages 44-45) and in Section 9 of Merlin’s “Some thoughts on Elektron’s Octatrack” document.
Thanks very much for your response Peter, and you are spot on sir. The aux send wasn’t working as the signal seemed to be conflicting due to Group 1-2 out, which goes to my sound card. i just used Group 3-4 to A and B of the OT and that sorted it! In all the chaos I forgot that I had another bus, group3/4 to use
incidentally, what was confusing me was that the Dir was set to zero on the OT so i couldn’t figure out what was causing the feedback loop. thanks mate
I have a mixer routing issue myself. My hardware set up consists of Digitakt as master slaving my Engine sequencer and the newly added Octatrack. The Engine is controlling sequences from the DRM MK2, XOXBOX, and Gibert synth and SH-32. Digitakt is sequencing the Virus TI in multimode.
I have two mixers one for main inputs for the clean signal to the Mackie 1402VLZ4 14-channel and I bridge one channel to my Roland M240 line mixer which I use specifically for routing effects to the individual outs of my DRM MK2, MIAMI, and 707 drum machines. I also use whatever other audio outputs I have available on my synths and route them to channels on the M240.
Now that you have an idea of how I have it all set up … Now that I have this Octatrack I was planning on trying to work on some live sampling, mixdowns. I have another feature I would like to utilize from the Octatrack and that is its ability to play very long almost unlimited sample length with the compact flash card but that takes us off topic.
So what I was hoping to do was record the audio from the M240 while affected since it sounds so much cooler with all the effects laid down on the synths. So how would I do this properly. I would have the master outs of the Octatrack go to a channel on the clean mixer then feed one of the outputs of the M240 for the effected sound into in A/B of the OT? This M240 mixer is nice but It has no mute buttons or anything just sliders for volume. So If I wanted to target record cymbals and hats from two of my drum machines that means I would have to lower the volumes of all the other instruments taking them out of the mix. It would be nice to find a big enough mixer for all my input needs one that has a way to select individual tracks to be routed to an certain output signal which would leading to the OT for recording. That way I can choose which machines I want to include in the flex/thru recording without having to take everything else out of the mix!
