Yeah, probably a bit late for that…

My partner is a fan of UK biscuits and chocolates; we are still working through what we brought back from our October visit to London. At Xmas she likes to have some Terry’s Chocolate Orange. We could usually find it in SF and NYC, and it’s one of the things that goes on sale on Boxing Day in Canada. Here in Portugal it’s harder to find, and she had no luck, but she was at a Lidl to get something else and saw it in the after-Xmas sale area. Score! She bought a couple, and opened one this afternoon while on a thorny work call. Except it wasn’t one. It looked like one, had the brown orange segment shapes on the label, but was missing the key word “orange” on the label. Instead, it is called “Terry’s Chocolate Milk”. And she does not like the way it tastes. (It’s made in France, too, but probably all the EU ones are now.)

This is really a minor whinge compared to some of the serious issues discussed here, but it underlines how it seems that every aspect of modern life is just getting meaner and more grasping. You can’t even enjoy a simple treat without someone trying to trick you.

I give up!

I refuse to be angry at the world, but you know it’s time to log off when you feel gross after a conversation!

Life’s too short for unnecessary nonsense!

It wasn’t a conversation about AI was it?

Isn’t everything a conversation about AI lately?

Or should I say a one sided argument!

We haven an expat shop here in the Netherlands (about 45 mins away from where we live) where my partner (a Brit) can get hers. Had a Chocolate Orange & the Caramel one for the festive season.

Anyway that doesn’t help you in any way, but it’s a very long winded way of saying that Terry’s has multiple flavours :stuck_out_tongue:

My partner is Canadian but an Anglophile. I think she has hit some of the expat shops in Lisbon and found them kind of depressing. The Chocolate Milk was introduced in 2025. Now she knows.

It just fucking blows how people treat others with differing opinions! Don’t like being a part of it! It really bums me out!

This is what good business practices are all about when it comes to in-house treatment of workers. Building trust authentically creates stability, durability, and loyalty. This leads to sustainable productivity and knowledge retention. Which results in better output. Virtuous cycle.

On the product side…selling a good product and treating customers fairly pays for itself in the long run.

Scamming and skimming, regardless of whether it’s inward or outward facing, are not sustainable business practices.

With the right wing rhetoric around at the moment are these ‘expat’ shops actually ‘immigrant’ shops .
It’s convenient when British live in Europe and we’re k own as ‘expats’ but when Europeans live in uk they’re often flagged as immigrants … along with typical negative attitudes … especially if they’re not white and Christian … similar rhetoric in other countries and right wing political discourse .

Perhaps it’s not a good topic for a music forum and we’re just talking about chocolate .

Lots of ‘chocolate’ biscuits are being renamed as ‘chocolate flavour’ due to kncreased cocoa costs
Plus to keep costs down they adjust the size but keep the price ( shrinkflation ) .

Cadbury chocolate is inedible. has the taste and texture of Tupperware. Where I live, we have a much better alternative for your mainstream chocolate needs (Whittaker’s). Cadbury is now reserved for children who just want sugar and the very elderly who still expect it to taste like whatever it was in 1920.
oh, and British expats, who munch down on Cadbury as if it were enjoyable, ignoring the shocked and disapproving expressions of all around them.
What I’m saying is, Cadbury chocolate makes me mad, and people who keep the Cadbury company going by continuing to buy their rubbish product make me mad by extension.

Sympathies. There’s a particular Polish cookie my wife loves, and the only place we can order them from is a museum halfway across the country

Got a meeting tomorrow about a design project that I am managing - and the topic is ‘value management’, which means ‘How much of the (little) good in the design can we rip out and replace with garbage before anyone torches our corporate HQ?’

I hate financiers. I hate ‘stakeholders’. I hate ‘revenue generation zones’ (i.e. lets fill our nice public spaces with blindingly-bright digital advertising!).

The day my mortgage is paid off in 2027 I am done. In the meantime I will continue to fight against the eternal drive to enshittification.

Downside of this approach is that you might end up getting promoted.
