Didn’t the whole Ableton in a box thing originate from an Elektron employee who was yet to declare they were an Elektron employee?
Unofficial marketing hype is my (sketchy admittedly) recollection.

Sounds plausible.
Wasn’t expecting to be able to track down patient zero, but now I know, there’s a chance we can eradicate this nonsense at source.
Don’t go whacking anyone on my flimsy memory…
Not my fault you’re a snitch.
If Octatrack isn’t Ableton in a box then why do they both make my samples sound less punchy and defined? Hmm? Hmmmmm?!
QED, I rest my case your honour.

Just didn’t forget my fee: half a dozen cobs.
Pretty damn great article from seven years ago.
This is where the Octatrack shines. If what you’re looking for is an easy way to record and layer loops without a computer.
Is this enough to buy one?
Because you didnt turn timestretch off.
Is this an honest reply to an ironic post, or an ironic reply to an honest post?
Due to the nuance-stripping effect of t’internet we’ll never know.
when ableton first came out, ok, it plays clips, and you can set up what clips it plays at what time. OK. that’s really cool.
If you’re talking about corn on the cob it is.
Don’t play coy with me. You know exactly what we’re talking about.
Call the cobs.

Cobs are about corn where I’m from.
I’m taking about them buns.
Able-bun Live.

Was hovering over the REPLY button early to dispense the same facts.
That is certainly my recollection.
I can’t use a laptop with abelton or an octatrack - i have tried so many times with OT mk1 and have cleared all my gear out to focus on abelton/laptop but every time i have not been able to make anything with it - my feeling is that i have some sort of emotional blockage to these items so whilst its entertaining reading your rant and i agree that people comparing these things are lazy it just reminds me of my own inept skillset when faced with either option ![]()
I cover up for my ineptitude by ranting on the internet.
