sounds sick.
Patching can be so fun

Mad innit?
No filter, no sequencer, no enevelopes, no triggers, just 2 lfos and an oscillator.

yeah you can do a lot with just few modules if you patch them cleverly

I haven’t explored much of mirack other than the mutable modules… I owned some of them as hardware and now them quite a bit, that’s why I always come back to them.

Should check the other stuff

Ah just checked the patch. Also sending a clock to both reset inputs. But both LFOs running at different rates. So there’s that weird rhythmic thing.

Really cool stuff.

You should. The bog audio stuff seems basic, it isnt…

Is mirack still supported/updated?

Thinking of getting an iPad for various reason, mirack could be a deciding factor given I’m a modular addicted and I have sold a big part of my system.

Also, I suppose iPad 12.8 inches is way better than 11 for this purpose?

It still works fine.
No updates since I got it.
If you want the newest latest, it might not be for you.
If you want modular on the ipad, its a no brainer.

It’s received updates since I bought it, but they’re not frequent updates.

I just checked their forum and they’re not very responsive so its hard to measure how much support is in the future, but again it’s received updates with new modules since I got it, but the last was 10 months per the app.

As @Microtribe its not following VCV releases so you pretty much need blinders on and just enjoy having modular on an iPad.

I have the 12.9 iPad Pro and they have some nice features for navigating the set with alternating between arranging modules and patching. I’m mentioning this because even on 12.9, zooming is needed.

I do feel like I got what I paid for already as it was my most used music making option on the plane. It was the easiest to use with Bluetooth headphones since real time input wasn’t necessary, making bluetooth latency a non issue.

nope, I’m fine with basic modules. Even on my real system I prefer simple modules than new and shiny multi functions etc. , I’m much more creative this way.

Ipadnoob question: how do you record something from mirack? Do you need aum or some other app?

Yeah. As I said I don’t care about new modules being added every month but given that this app is playing a huge role in the decision between an Ipad and other devices (2 in laptop/android tablets) I just wanted to know if there is still some kind of support and it doesn’t disappear overnight ( I don’t even know if this can happen, but anyway…)

then, if zooming is needed anyway an 11 inches Ipad might be enough?

A couple of other questions, I don’t have an os device and there aren’t many demoes online of mirack:

1- what about playability? Obv I don’t expect the same experience a real modular can give, but how hard is to make some adjustment let’s say to a filter, a sequencer… with the touch screen (and a pencil?).

2- Does it have some similar features to Vcv? Like if you touch a cable you can see the destination, things like that.

Thanks everyone.

The file was too big to upload here, but this is just a quick video showing how to manage navigating vs patching vs adjusting parameters.

This is not a performance by any means - but just a quick demo of easy/quick it is to get around.

You can definitely use the pencil. I just use my fingers, so it’s easy enough without using the pencil.

Wow! Thank you. I’m really excited to try all the weird ideas I come up with or patching tecniques, everywhere, without spaghetti cables and without spending a fortune.

Definitely would save a fortune (but could also be your gateway to Eurorack)

There’s tons of content here that really would cost a fortune and so far it’s been stable for me. The mutable stuff alone is worth it (in my opinion of course) and it’s enough to keep busy.

*Also, it’s easy to duplicate modules, so utilities are as plentiful as needed.

You asked about the 11” and I think it would work fine. I occasionally draw so having the extra space makes it a must. I briefly switched to the 11” before going back. Drawing was the only thing that I didn’t like as much, but everything else was easy at 11 (and the device was lighter/more portable).

eheh I already have a 9u but to make the music I have in mind with eurorack I need at least another 6u filled. Nothing special, just some techno northern electronic style, but this genre, altough minimal, requires a lot of filtering, long effects chains, modulations for each element and I can’t afford it atm. It would cost me 4/5k… and I sold a lot of modules lately.

3 years into eurorack and classic hardware is not an option anymore, I find it boring and can’t stand menus and midi.

Yeah I’ll probably get an 11 for portability (and cost).

Ive got a basic ipad 9, screen size is fine.
Very playable with fingers depending on the size of your patch, a pencil or stylus is helpful though.

It doesnt do the VCV touch cable thing unless you disconnect one end, but you can colour code cables.

For recording audio you can screen record then convert to audio, or use AUM. I used to do the former, now I do the latter.

I don’t have miRack, but I’ve just read that it got a big update a few days ago, so it’s definitely still being supported.

Do you have a link for that? A quick google search tells me last update was 2021.

APP FEATURES

  • We made improvements to the audio engine resulting in significantly lower CPU consumption (depending on the patch). If you notice any issues with the new engine version, please let us know. You can also switch to the old engine version in Settings menu.

  • Selected device is now preserved in MIDI modules even if it’s not connected when a patch is loaded.

  • New Duplicate with Inputs command in module menu allows to duplicate a module and have the new module’s inputs connected to the same ports as the original one.

  • New commands to make managing module rows easier: Split onto New Row moves a module and all modules to the right of it to a new row; Join onto Previous Row (available for the first module in a row only) moves a module and all modules to the right of it to the end of the previous row, then deletes the empty row.

  • Support for factory presets. They’re currently available for a few modules only, but more preset management functionality is in the works.

MODULES

  • Module packs added: DHE, Skylights.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a few issues and crashes in AUv3 mode.

  • Fixed undo/redo functionality for Paste Preset command.

Very excited about the Skylight modules! I haven’t used the Turing devices, so this is going to be fun.

I should add that I only use this version… I downloaded VCV rack, but I’ve been worried I’ll buy all the pay-for modules, so I haven’t tried it.

Though this might change after picking up something like ES8, or equivalent (come on Boredbrain).

I just figured out how to route miRack to both my MC707 and my Octatrack and i think it broke my brain, i don’t even know where to start.

LFO’s FOR EVERYONE!!!
