Call me a cynic but thats how I see every company out there operates. Usually the customer is just a disposable wallet and “customer support” is mainly a way to keep the brand image intact. IRL nobody actually cares as long as money keeps flowing.
Unfortunately there are a lot of company’s out there. But some of them do really care. And for me that makes the difference. For example Moog and Novation care as far I can tell. I have had some issues but they always deliver good support. The seek for a solution that fits the problem.
Elektron can do better aswell. Filed a couple of tickets but only had a reaction on one of them.
The way you describe it, customer support as a way to keep the brand image intact, is basically a normal cause effect relationship that exists everywhere. Small business, large business, personal relationships, etc all rely on this feedback loop whether “true caring” is involved or not. If you act badly, don’t do what you say, go back on your promises, ignore people when they need help, etc, your reputation will suffer in some way and people will interact with you less and less. Of course a person working in customer service doesn’t care what happens with your synth to the same degree that they care about the health of their spouse or whatever, but it doesn’t mean that real interactions and kind behavior don’t occur.
It’s less that what you said is wrong, and more that what you said was framed in a way that vilifies that process in a cynical way.
I don’t understand the complaints about modulation. It’s not a Rev2 or anything but as each sequencer lane can be looked at as it’s own LFO, plus the standard LFO, plus CV tweaking options along with CC mapping PLUS additional mod parameters in the MultiOsc… there are a veritable sh*tton of possibilities.
I know. And also this very minor thing called MICROTUNING which is unheard of in a synth targeted to such a wide demographic. I mean, even elektron doesn’t offer easy microtuning…
I just dont trust companies is all. I have been burned too many times by them. Now I see them little more as thieves robbing tourists - they’re just someone who is doing what works to get them the money they need. Its nothing personal. If someone says “have a nice day” or “apologies, I cannot help you”, it doesnt change the facts. Everything about companies is about money and having enough of it to
grow
keep on employing the workers
keeping the company owners / stock owners content
I feel sorry for people working in customer service. They need to take in all that hostility and badwill that often results in companies trying to manage those three things.
Just wanted to say thanks on the sq1 suggestion. That’s one of those devices I have been hearing about forever as a great, cheap swiss army knife tool and with a recent xd purchase I was reviewing this thread and saw your tip. I found one for $50 on CL today and I can already see the usefulness with my new minilogue. Good stuff.
Has anyone looked into modding the XD joystick? With the XD module it’d be cool to have the stick not bounce back and instead be set-and-forget for live variation.
Sadly you can’t remap the pitchbend so it’d not be as useful as the wavestation stick… if that could be remapped I’d probably do it (maybe you could do something crazy disabling the pitchbend in settings, and then converting the stick bend output to aftertouch with an rk-002… but even if it worked that seems excessive?)
Instead probably just going to use an old iPhone and Lemur for some modulation needs.
The SQ-1 is a future classic, I’ve picked up three at this point. One new, the other two for dirt cheap right around $50. It’s very stupid to be selling them for this price when they have soooo much functionality. I think many people must not realize that they can be used as much more than a note sequencer. I think the best kept secret is that it’s a USB MIDI to CV converter, but shhhhh, I think it’s best if it stays that way…
Just for fun, can anyone tell me what a modular sequencer costs that has as much functionality as the SQ-1? I’m talking about multiple run modes, dual CV/GATE with independent sequencer mode as well as duplicated output, MIDI output, USB to CV output, step jump ability, slides, major, minor, chromatatic, and linear modes, assignable voltage range, Hz/V and V/Oct modes, and CRUCIALLY one knob and button per step… how much cash would that cost?
I also think this is the best demo of it. I didn’t like the sound of the xd when checking it in the store, but this is a really good demo, showing things I didn’t hear when I was on it. Nice
