Hello everybody,
I hooked up succesfully my Minilogue with the Octatrack via MIDI. Since the Octatrack is bad with chords and I want to use the Minilogue mainly for pads, I will just use the Octatrack to clock the Minilogue, trigger is sequences and change its parameters with the crossfader. This works well. When I go to a preset on the Minilogue and press play on the Octatrack they’re in sync.
Because I wanted to use the CC learn capabilities of the OCTATRACK I connected the Minilogue’s MIDI OUT with the MIDI IN of the Octatrack. The Octatrack successfully found the cc channels, when I twisted the knobs. However, when I play the Minilogues Sequencer it doesn’t sound right. It’s not that I hear nothing but it’s just single notes and they’re super off and definitely not the sequence. I can remedy this by simply unplugging the MIDI IN from the Octatrack. I can still control the Minilogues parameters with the faders. Still, I would prefer to keep this MIDI IN connection because then I can see the cc changes when I twist knobs on the Minilogue. Any idea what could cause the problem?
Sounds like a MIDI feedback loop! The Octatrack and the Minilogue are both sending and receiving the same MIDI messages, which can cause all kinds of weird behaviors. It’s been a long while since I’ve had a Minilogue, but there is usually an option on synths to turn off sending clock/transport/CC messages.
First, just to make sure it isn’t simply looped clock, try just turning off clock/transport send from the Minilogue. If it is still causing issues, turn off CC message sending, and you’ll just have to selectively turn it on and off when you want to play vs. when you want to “teach” the OT.
Hopefully that helps!
Thanks for the reply! I turned off the sends that I don’t want from the Minilogue, and it works for MOST of the sequences. Curiously, the sequences still won’t work if they use the Arpeggiator of the Minilogue. The others work fine.

Local sw off
Same for Monologue
I tried to turn the local SW off, but unfortunately it didn’t help.
Can you explain in more detail what you are doing and what is happening?
OK, I’ll try:
The MIDI goes out of the Octatrack into the Minilogue and back. I enabled the send transport in the octatrack, since I want the sequencer of the Minilogue to start when I hit play on the Octatrack. This works, but if the minilogue is in arpeggiator mode, the sequence doesn’t play back right. There are no trigs on the octatrack.
It’s hard to describe what’s ‘sounding wrong’, but it might be that only the first note of the arpeggio is playing?! In any case there are fewer notes that should be.
Do you have the OT set to send clock as well? The arp needs to know what tempo to play at.
Yes, clock is sent as well. As well as CC messages.
Is the clock source set to Auto (MIDI) on the Minilogue?
Yes. And the clocking works!
Wow, I’m running out of ideas. What happens if you turn off CC sending from the Minilogue? Obviously the OT can’t learn then, but worth testing to see if that could be impacting the arp.
Did you try to switch Legato ON on the OT Arp?
You’re right, it won’t learn then. But the sequence is still not playing back correctly. And yes, super weird. As soon as I unplug the midi cable it works.
@FTJ, switching Legato ON has no effect on the playback of the sequence.
A few additional ideas:
1.) Turn off sending program changes, CC, and pitch bend on the Minilogue (this should ensure it does not send anything that could mess with the OT)
2.) Set the MIDI route to MIDI, not MIDI + USB on the Minilogue
3.) Try turning on latching in the arp on the Minilogue
4.) Create a brand new project on the OT, ensure clock and transport are set to send, and make no other changes (this will help us know whether or not there is some setting on the OT impacting it)
- doesn’t work
- there’s no such option on the minilgoue. There’s only MIDI+ USB or USB (i don’t have the xd, but the original one, if you refer to the XD)
- didn’t change anything
- I did, and it works if I just use the octatrack for clocking. But as soon as I set the MIDI channel in the MIDI NOTE SETUP it stops working properly.
