Minichord

Apologies if there’s a thread, but I couldn’t find it. This is the mini version of Omnichord? Sounds lovely.

There’s a lot of these sort of chording synths out just recently, the NapkeyChord ( thread ) being extremely similar, but I think the Minichord sounds nicer, and is a nicer package, much more compact and holdable.

Another about to ship in a month or so is the HiChord ( post ), slightly different, and restricted to a key, but even more compact, plus they’ve added some interesting features to that.

The Minichord really needs to get taken up and manufactured if it is going to go anywhere.

I guess there was a demand or some feedback from people looking for these kind of options. I really like the idea and I might even buy one of them (too many to choose from now) if the price is right - even though I use very simple chord progressions for the music i produce.

The thing about the Omnichord UI format is you have every chord available rather than a more select set matched to the key.

We could have a good list of alternatives, but I’ll try to stick to the Minichord here.

I wonder if all these chord machines will make a shift in popular music’s chords. Or if the majority of people will just use them to get easy access to I V vi IV in different keys and voicings.

Hard to say but I don’t think so. Most people who produce popular music probably already have one of those plugins. It’s simpler and more accessible to everyone.

I think these will help more hands-on people and more musical oriented people - you know trying to learn, expand their ability etc.
