Bonjour. Just want to know if I have to use a special cable to connect my Model:Sample to an Arturia Beatstep ?
thanks.
this is quite possibly one of the more convoluted setups needed…
the Model:Samples should come with a 3.5mm 1/8" Midi TRS Type A to 5 Pin Din Female Midi adapter
the Beatstep requires a 3.5mm 1/8" Midi TS Type C to 5 Pin Din Female adapter
in between you just need a regular Male to Male 5 Pin Din Midi cable
(note: i dont have either device, just read about them and tried to make sense of it)
If you want to connect the MIDI Out port of the BeatStep to the MIDI In port of the Model:Samples then you can use either:
- the setup described by @mce076 above, or
- a simple 3.5 mm TRS cable because the M:S will set the correct polarity without the need for adaptors.
Edit: Ignore what I wrote: follow @mce076’s advice.
I thought the Beatstep was fairly unique (and different to the beatstep pro) in needing a Type C (mono/TS) connector ? Does the above mean you’ve tried it with a stereo (TRS) minijack and it works ?
Indeed, you’re correct:
No; it means I should delete my post. Thanks for the correction.
FWIW, I just tried an experiment with another Type C device.
Mixed results, notes were not triggered, but the device DID flash a light indicating it was receiving midi, when the M:C was set up correctly and using STD polarity (Type A in other words).
So, @PHILBEC I think you should try a stereo minijack cable if you have one. Your beatstep might just possibly work with this connector and the Model:samples set to STD polarity. Don’t be surprised if it fails though, and you need to follow @mce076’s advice.
EDIT: and thanks @PeterHanes for the prompt I needed to try it out here.
ok, I’ll try that.
thanks
Beatstep does not work with with TRS. All sorts of other stuff only works with TRS. Anyone know what the wiring should be should be?
I thought add some information about my experience using TRS MIDi with Roland compacts T8 and E4 combined with a Circuit Tracks. In case it helps someone.
The Circuit would send MIDI out of its standard MIDI out port but the compacts receiving using TRS MIDI type B would play at half the tempo of the Circuit’sTempo. This would also happen using TRS cable for sync out of the Circuit to the compacts. When using the correct TR cable for sync all devices ran at the correct tempo.
The experience has made me wary of using TRS MIDI devices, i already had my doubts about these devices with no standard for MIDI TRS wiring in place.
Has any one had problems connecting a MIDI type A to a MIDI type B or had a similar experience to mine with Standard MIDI din to a TRS device.
