MIDI to CV converter iOS app

Hey, I just would like to share that I have released my first iOS app — Rope.

Rope is a flexible MIDI to CV converter AUv3 extension wrapped into iOS app that lets you control your modular synth using any source of MIDI signal: another AU extension e.g. a sequencer or hardware MIDI interface or controller.

Rope doesn’t work standalone and in Garage Band. It requires “AUM” (AUv3 host app) to launch the Rope app and a DC‑coupled audio interface (for example, Expert Sleepers ES‑8) to output CV to your Eurorack modular system. Regular audio-interfaces are AC-coupled and can’t output CV signals.

With Rope, you can quickly select a source MIDI channel and map events as:

  • Gate
  • Pitch
  • Velocity
  • Pitch Bend
  • Aftertouch
  • CCs
to 2 CV outputs (supported by AUM). By default it loads with Gate and Pitch.

Sounds like a good idea :+1:t2:

I wouldnt want to spend another 300 quid on hardware to make it work but the Blackbox is supposed to be DC coupled iirc, I wonder if it would be possible to rig it with that?

I also converted midi - CV with my Keystep but not CCs too which is what I’m after. I’d consider this app if it gave me CCs too with one of those devices. Viable?

Unfortunately it won’t work for you. 1010music Blackbox does NOT function as a USB audio interface when connected to an iOS device. So it won’t be supported by AUM. Keystep is not an audio interface.

Ta.

what is. the advantage of your app over a mutant brain or cv.ocd? both cost less than an ES‑8.

Just if one already has or plan to buy a DC coupled interface anyway, the app can expand its capabilities. Multiple functionalities. Isn’t it the whole idea of modular stuff?)
Of course if one need just midi-cv it makes not much sense to buy the app and an interface.
Maybe converting NRPN events might be an advantage if I‘ll add it.
