Hi,
I can send the notes programmed in the M:C to the Korg, but can you also send effects? In the MIDI-menu, there are settings for enable those, but it doens’t seem to work. I tried all channels (programmed keystep are with channel 2).
The manual says: “FX OUT selects the dedicated MIDI channel for the DELAY and REVERB parameters, If configured as OFF, parameter data are not sent via MIDI.”
Is this because the Korg doesn’t accept this?
just send it CCs
This is on Model Cycles manual page 26, which is referenced on the page you mentioned which talks about the midi out settings for FX OUT.
It looks like you need to change the MOUT setting for the track which you want to send changes from the FX knob with. It warns that “only the sequencer data for note, velocity, and length are sent over midi” meaning that the sequencer apparently will not send parameter locked fx changes? I don’t know, I don’t have an M:C to test it with, but that’s what it says. So I guess it will send live changes made via the knobs only.
BUT the midi implementation chart makes it appear that what M:C sends as CCs for the reverb and delay parameters are 85, 86, 87 and 88 (you would need to monitor the midi coming out of the MC to confirm this but let’s assume that it’s true).
I had a look at the midi implementation chart posted above and it shows that of those CC listed above, the NTS-1 only responds to CC 88 which says MOD type, so that is not promising for sending FX change messages from the MC to the NTS-1.
You can, of course, test this further until you’re satisfied that it does or does not work, but I think the answer will probably be that the FX knobs can’t control the NTS-1 although perhaps something else on the MC can control the NTS-1, but right now I’m only trying to answer the question you asked and you’ll have to test it because I don’t have the necessary hardware to do so.
Take a look at both manuals and see if there’s a way to do what you want using the CCs transmitted and received.
Good luck
Thank you @shigginpit !
I’m very new to MIDI (synthesizers and electronic gear in general, after the PO’s, The M:C and nts1 are my first devices and I’m still learning them). Your answer explains a lot for me.
I do try to read the manuals for answers, but I don’t understand everything
@mrjayjayjay I had that chart, but I didn’t know what it meant. It means the CC-values don’t correspond and since I cannot change them, I can’t sent delay and reverb. I could sent them to different devices (maybe where you can configure these things?) or some MIDI interface between both M:C and Korg exist. I don’t have such devices.
It’s also no problem, I just wanted to understand why in the M:C manual there was talk of sending effect info through MIDI and why it didn’t work in my setup.
