Midi solution for switching midi channel on AK

Something I want to smooth out in my setup, especially for live performance, is to be able to quickly change the midi channel for the external midi on the Analog Keys.

I have the AK midi going in to the OT, which sequences the DN. With autochannel on the OT I can choose which DN I am playing with the keyboard. Problem is that I also use the keyboard for a piano plugin in Ableton live. So now I always have to select an empty midi track on the OT if I want to play the plug-in (so no DN track gets triggered). And I have to mute the midi input from the plug-in if I want to play the DN.

Before I had the AK, I used the keystep, so I could choose the midi channel quickly on the keystep. AK doesn’t do that…

So I wonder if there is any midi solution for that. Ideally I imagine a small box in between AK and OT that lets me change the midi channel of the passing midi with some buttons. I guess this doesn’t exist…

Ant ideas on how to make this easier?

if u play on ak keyboard, every track, even the cv and fx track can be set to a specific midi channel… maybe that helps

Yes, but I am talking about the external keyboard. This has only 1 midi channel. I could play on the internal tracks and send out midi, but then I have the AK playing together with DN or plug-in, so that doesn’t help. I need to use the external keyboard which doesn’t trigger the internal tracks.

What’s the problem with that?

What MIDI connections are you making between the AK, OT, DN, and the computer that runs Ableton Live?

luxury problem: too many actions. I need to do 2 actions on 2 devices to switch between instruments. (when playing live)

real problem: if I am playing the plugin I can’t do anything on the OT audio tracks, because when I select an audio track, the keyboard will trigger the track. Or is there a way to make audio tracks ignore the autochannel?

Have you ever had a look at the Sipario from Lab4music ? This box, somewhat costly I must admit, absolutely changed the way I look at midi routing now…
From the simple AK keybed, I can play 3 synths at different octaves and lauch a bunch of track on the ot…Absolute performance tool…And it send pchanges at the push of a button…
Before that I was using a homemade Nord G2 patch to handle this but that’s maybe overkill for your needs…Just a bit…

AK send notes to computer over usb.
AK send over DIN to midi merger that goes into OT.
OT out to DN in.

This problem will always occur when routing a simple keyboard like the AK to two different synths simultaneously.

You will have to keep changing channels on the AK, or use an additional device to route the MIDI output of the AK to the two destinations, or use an additional device to connect the output of either the OT or DN to the computer.

yes  this is what I am thinking and asking advice about. a “switch” device to switch the output to 2 destinations would be good. can be din or usb…

But splitting midi after OT and send it to the computer will make it easier. so I can setup 1 midi track on the OT for controlling the plug-in… at least this will be the cheapest option as I have a midi thru box somewhere around.

thanks
