Midi routing question

I’ve searched so many midi questions on here, but it seems like nobody has a similar one as mine. Apologies if it’s a repost.

I’m looking to be able to control my synths with both my Keystep Pro and my DT. Currently my setup is:

Keystep Pro midi out > midi through box > [DT, and others midi in]

Works great, but I only get 4 channels of midi control. No midi control from DT. Would this setup let me use both DT and KSP as a controller:

Keystep Pro midi out
\ /
midi merge > midi splitter > [other synths midi in]
/ \
DT midi out

Then could I also run midi splitter to DT midi in (just clock and transport)?

What about this?

I think I’m right in saying you could probably replace the Merge/Thru boxes above with a single retrokits RK006, if you’re not averse to midi over TRS minijacks.

Can one of the KSP OUTs be configured as a THRU? If so, this might work:

KSP OUT > DN IN
DN OUT > KSP IN
KSP THRU -> synths / midi splitter box etc

:ooh:

Just as I was scratching my head attempting to work out my own MIDI tangle. This might be just the ticket.

I’ve not bought one yet, but it looks inevitable for my slowly expanding setup at some stage.

If you don’t own the splitter and merger than take a look at blokas midihub.
Solved a lot of my midi routing questions.

This setup would work although, as others have pointed out, you might find a single MIDI routing device to be more useful than a merger and a splitter.

Which are your other (unidentified) synths?

If you don’t need all the KSP’s sequencers to be running at the same time as the DT, then you could make use of the DT’s Autochannel feature and potentially do away with the MIDI merge box.

Thank you all for the great advice. This is why I love this forum so much.

@bibenu and @Tlsckr Those both look perfect. Not sure if the retrokit ships to the US though. May give the Blockas a spin if nothing else works.

@Octagonist Awesome idea. Works like 90% great. A few quirks with the DT of course, but isn’t that always the case. I can record trigs on the DT only with the KSP set to DT’s auto channel. My Eurorack channels only fire if the KSP is set to DT auto and I press two keys on the KSP simultaneously ( ). Etc.

@echoicMalady :fist_right: :fist_left: That looks like a cleaner version of my idea. It looks like I’m purchasing a merge box. Thanks!

@PeterHanes I have a Hydrasynth desktop, DT, 1/2 of a Korg Monologue, beginning of eurorack (2 midi channels via Niftycase), Yamaha Clavinova digital piano, and a new Vermona Perfourmer. Also have Empress Echosystem and Reverb pedals that I’m curious about sending cc trigs to via the DT. Also a Lyra-8 (no midi). Everything was swimming along beautifully until I got the Perfourmer. It is so much fun to play with the KSP, but it uses up all 4 tracks.
