Hi when i record single midi notes to a midi track from a midi controller new notes replace old ones rather than add the new note to the chord. is there anyway to change this function so that new notes are added to the chord?
For example I’m sending and recieving from a nord drum 3p and i might like to do a take with 2 percussion sounds then for the next cycle be able to add another sound like a hihat over the top. At the moment the 8th note hihat pattern replaces the triggers already on every 8th note
I don’t think so- not without a midi processor anyway. Elektron sequencers work Uber linearly. The chord capability is merely a CC extension of that linear framework
@ryan is right. There is no overdubbing or multi tracking per track. The possibility to polyphony is a per-trig action. If you record multiple notes (up to four) simultaneously, they will “stick”. But if you at any point record a single note (or another combo 1-4), that will replace what’s already there.
With the Nord Drum you are best off to use different channels for different sounds as @hotscience said.
Thanks hotscience that’s a great idea, i can just swap channels to record the second cycle. However I think using one track per channel would be fine for sequencing the nord drum but as for recording to midi tracks I think you can only record to one track at a time right? I hope i’m wrong about that. I like to record a few different sounds at a time because I feel I get a more natural result.
Unless Ryan is correct I wonder if it would be possible to implement overdubbing in the future, it would be very nice if so and four voice polyphony would be totally adequate because its rare that you’d want to play more than four drum sounds at the same time. Also is there a way to disable midi echo when recording because currently i have to turn local control off on the nord which prevents you from cycling through presets or editing etc. til you switch local control on again, not a biggie tho.
You can record multiple tracks at once in live rec mode. I set 4 midi tracks to the same ch but different note numbers corresponding to the ND voices. Then I live rec in some or all of it, added more on subsequent passes.
Do you mean you can multitrack record using the midi trig keys on the digitakt? I am talking about recording the midi from my nord 3ps pads and I can’t find a way to multitrack record from an external controller. It only records to the selected midi track from the auto midi channel as far as i can tell, ive been reading the manual to find otherwise but i can’t. thanks
Resurrecting this thread. This idea is great but I run into a new problem. If I hit record and start playing on my Minilogue XD, it records to both channels.
I’d have assumed that if I live record my note playing with my track armed to one midi, it would only record midi note data on that track sequence, but instead it records it on both the tracks, so I’m unable to build / overdub via two sequences.
