I don’t know if i am missing something, but i would love to be able to hold down a trig, then play a midi note on my attached keyboard and have that trig set to that note.
Is this possible? I can’t really tell from the manual!

grid record mode, press/hold the trig, press the note you want on your ext. midi kb
you can also go into live record mode and just play it out and even have it record the microtiming if your settings are set for that

that’s the mode people usually miss, since just hitting the record button alone is grid mode…so sounds like you are doing good
