Midi latency thru Live?

Long question, quick answer…(I hope)

So I was testing out this setup, where I’m sequencing a Volca Drum with the DT, but routed through Live using OB.

DT -> Live -> Scarlett 2i4 -> VD

Then bringing the audio back in through the DT, and into Live.

The latency is noticeable, and I measured it to be around 30ms, by comparing with the audio coming from an audio track on the DT triggered at the same time.

I’ve done some other testing and think my audio latency is only around 5ms, so I’m attributing most of the total latency to digitally routing the midi.

I don’t have a lot to compare to, so can someone confirm whether or not this is pretty much to be expected?

I’m not sure how much this depends on my OB settings (in practice doesn’t seem to affect the midi much anyway), but jic, here they are:

Plugin buffer - 64
Safety margin - 60
Driver - highest speed

In Live, I’m using 48k and 128 samples

TL;DR I’ve got 30ms latency when sequencing an external drum machine using the DT via Live - is this normal?

Why are you routing through Overbridge? Just enable midi tracking the normal way through Ableton Live and pipe the midi from the Digitakt as you would for a midi keyboard or whatever. You shouldn’t need to switch from Overbridge mode in the Digitakt or anything like that.

For me, I find Overbridge works best as just an audio router. I even disable sync in Overbridge and use Ableton’s normal midi syncing, it all works fine.

Disclaimer: I don’t have a Digitakt, I do this with Syntakt and Digitone and it works similarly, I believe.
