Midi host for AK/P6/EN16 setup

I want to use the p-6 to take on drum duties and/or polyphonic assistance for an analog keys. I would like to integrate an Intech EN-16 into this setup for quick access to P-6 parameters.

AK and p-6 do not output power via usb, which the EN-16 requires for power and midi.

A midi host should help. The Intech midi host seems it would resolve the issue.

Does anyone have other recommendations for midi hosts or comments on the one by Intech?

Is this even applicable to the thread or should I make a new post?

Looks fine at a glance, I have a cheap one made by doremidi and it works fine but I don’t push it hard and that’s where they supposedly start to differentiate themselves (to clarify, I use mine for a controller, not typically for real time parameter changes from din hardware to USB midi. Sending a lot of CC commands at once, or other similar operation, is where I’ve read that the quality of the device starts to matter more).

If you’re concerned about something you only have to buy once maybe look at the kenton, only nominally more money and a good reputation.

If the intech does something specific that you need in regards to your planned set up, I’d check and make sure any of the other options do the same before shifting your aim to another brand, but for example, my doremidi does provide power via the USB connection and has a basic power supply with a barrel jack for it’s power source.

The doremidi host cost me around $45 on sale and while I can’t say for sure regarding your specific intentions with the P6, I can say that for me it’s worked fine.

A slightly more advanced option would be the plexus hub that @jmkmusic designed, it provides quite a bit of functionality (advanced routing, midi filtering, usb midi host etc etc) and really has a lot of bang for the buck, however I don’t think that it will provide power over USB. Maybe he can confirm.

I’ll take a look at all of the above. Appreciate your expertise.

Plexus does provide power over USB Host.
I only recommend that there be a powered USB Hub if you are wanting to plug in more than 1 USB device.

This is what I have USB MIDI Host Box - DOREMiDi

Looks like they have another one now, and it says “high speed” but I’m not sure what that encompasses.

Plexus is a router, but it’s a swiss army knife and part of that is a host device.

edit: speak of the devil and he shall appear, thanks Joe.

sheesh, Plexus is beautiful. Definitely keeping note. Doing some routing calculations now to determine requirements.

If you have a Raspberry Pi around, you can use this bomber solid MIDI router:

I have have several Grid controllers with more on the way. I use them with a Knot, that Raspberry Pi router, or connected to my iPad through a USB hub. All situations work well. Love those Grid controllers.

This may be too specific to my use-case here, and not as flexible down the line, but this Daul USB MIDI Host Box DUH-10 seems the cheapest. Provides 2A@5V on each usb host.

P-6 draws 500mA@5V
EN-16 draws ~250mA@???V

Go out A4 into P6 midi in for transport control.

bingo bango?

EDIT: wow that product title typo is real. didn’t notice that at first.

No Pi here sadly. Any chance there’s a Teensy 4.1 equivalent you know of?

Not that I’ve heard of, no.

that’s hilarious. this is what happens when you get a bad haircut but wear it confidently.

use it as a phone charger and the value of your investment is now double, or “daul”, as we say in the industry.

I think I may pass based on the daulity of man evident in whoever approved the design.

I forgot to check CME, and have been a fan of their products for a minute, now. Looks like they have something in production that will fit all of this super nicely and be more flexible down the line. Is the most affordable option, as well.

…depending on reviews from the first batch.

Damn, that’s crazy inexpensive for what they’re offering. Makes me extra suspicious but curious none the less! Daully noted!
