My current setup is midi controller > digitakt > external synth. If I use the thru port I can audition the synth sound from the midi controller easily since the midi data goes through the digitakt. However if I record it seems I then need to switch to midi out to send the data to my synth. Am I missing something? I would like to be able to audition, record and playback the midi using only 1 port. Thanks!
try setting up a midi track on you digitakt to control the external synthesizer.
set your kbd to the same midi channel that the midi track (A-H) receives. You can do this from channel config in the midi menu.
set the midi track (a-h) to send midi on a different channel that it receives midi from.
use the midi out from digitakt to your synth.
the kbd should control the midi track which you will be able to record on.
kbd channel 10 -> midi track channel 11 -> external synth track 11
