It looks like it was made for the octa, if I preorder it, will it be easy enough to set up to the octa? Faders controlling the level pots of each channel, pots for the filters or other fx etc?
I love the OT but playing live isn’t as fluid as is like it to be or as it could be using this I think
Thanks for your response pal, yer I’m aware of the octakontrol but it’s just too much money for what it does, I have a Kenton box but want to keep the set up as minimal as possible at the moment. Perhaps the little mini usb to midi dongle supplied with my beatstep would work?
I have used a Korg nanokontroll 2 with my OT. You can get them for 49€/49$. They have a “working” editor.
But you have to use your kenton box (Usb-host)
The Oktacontrol is more or less like a boutique version of a midi controler,
it´s plug and play, full metall case, handcrafted, open source. That´s what you pay for.
Nah mate, I can appreciate the otkontrol is a boutique item but it’s just not worth it for the cash, now if they had put 3 pots above each channel I’d have bought it without even thinking. But €260 for 8 faders and mutes is a joke.
I’ve got a nanokontrol but again, the lack of pots discounts it for me.
Shame about the akai bit, that’s exactly the layout I need. It seems like such a basic layout it’s a wonder more people aren’t catering to this demand
canedit the Midi CC values on the Midimix to fit to the Octatracks midi settings
The Akai hardware i use (MPK) has got an editor and is editable on the unit. It can be concluded that Akai will relaese an editor for the Midimix with the hardware or after the release.
I am resurrecting this thread instead of starting a new one… but now a few years later, I want to get me a launch control XL or the midimix for controlling OT
Did someone tried both? Or knows which one works best? I read about a lot of people having troubles with the launch control XL, is this still a mess? Or is this fixed by now?
One thing to consider is if there is two way midi pickup of previous cc values, I used a launchcontrol xl with my octatrack a little but found I often retreated from touching the knobs and sliders because the controls, naturally, send immediate cc values of their 0-127 position when moved. The OT has encoders which negates this issue when using the OT interface alone, but if you play with scenes, parts, patterns then go to move a slider on a lcxl the levels just suddenly and it sounds very unnatural - it can make the movement between these a lot more awkward. I ended up selling it. For DJ use it probably makes a lot of sense, but I wasnt feeling the combination for improv and mangling - which for me is the real quality of the OT.
For DJing with Octatrack I used Evolution UC 33 midi controller, it’s great for that. And also ipad with touchOSC + usb-midi adapter. TouchOSC is great because you can design your own midi controller in iPad…
