MIDI configuration question DN2 & DT2, what am I forgetting?

I have been using a template that I made for DN2 & DT2 projects and had a sudden appearance of a MIDI issue that I don’t understand. DN2 is master and controlling DT2, clock send/receive is working, as is pattern start and stop. The issue is that suddenly pattern changes on the DT are not following the DN.

DN is set to send clock, transport and program change. DT is set to receive each of those, but no pattern change is happening on DT. I thought maybe my file was corrupted, so I initialized new projects and started from scratch with the same result. All of my old pairs of projects are also not working (meaning just no pattern change occurring on the DT2).

Am I misremembering something and tweaked a setting by accident? The MIDI port settings are all default and the only channel change is the DN which gets notes from a keystep.

I am assuming I am being stupid, but I just experimented for the last hour or so, watched a few DT/DN configuration videos to be sure, and no luck.

On the DT, on the Sequencer Setup page, does Pattern->Change say On?

Thanks, it is set per track, so that option is not available.

I just tried again in reverse order. DT into DN. I used a different MIDI cable as a test as well, and removed keystep to simplify. Same result, clock and start stop working, but pattern change is not following on the DN.

Edit: are pattern change instructions tied to a channel? I can get it to work if I have both in the same auto channel, but no don’t recall doing that before. It has been a while and I may have completely forgotten these basics, so sorry if I am being an idiot. That said, configuration examples I am following have no midi channel adjustment in their setups.

If the receiver is set per track that could well account for your problem, a known issue for years. See if this post explains your problem.

Thanks, it was not that issue. I was getting no pattern changes at all on the slave device. I have never had to specify the program change channels, and have left both boxes set to auto. Setting a specific channel has it working again.

I have no idea what changed or is different. I found my old notebook with detailed settings from my OG DN/DT and I never had to set a program change channel in the past.

Sorry, maybe a little overkill here regarding my loooong text.
But here I have mirrored my menu settings. I use the OG Digitone, but in principle it should work simultaneously for all involved Elektrons.

In my case, the Digitakt 2 is the ‘master’. All others are oriented towards it. I distributed the MIDI connections via a Blokas MIDI hub, but that shouldn’t matter either – the classic in-to-out cable route works just as well, of course. The whole thing also works if you establish the audio connection to a computer via Overbridge – however, there are other restrictions here that may need to be taken into account. I just tested it again: when you change the pattern on the Digitakt, the pattern on the Digitone also changes – just as it should.

Thank you for taking the time to share that. I will check versus my settings.
