Microfreak and Launchpad Aftertouch?

Hey all,

I’ve been searching around and haven’t seen anyone talking about this: I’ve been doing some research into customization of my Microfreak and came across a bunch of people who took off the keys to turn it into a smaller module with a 3d printed case. That really piqued my interest cause I’ve got limited desk space at the moment. I’m aware you lose the sequencer, slice/dice, and pitch strip functionality, that’s fine with me as I usually just record into Ableton and manage/mangle there. I’m thinking of using my Launchpad as the midi input/sequencer. Just wondering if anyone knows or has tested if the Launchpad Pro Mk3 works with aftertouch on the MF? I’ve only seen one comment from 3 years ago on Reddit saying they had issues with both units. I’m at work right now so I don’t have access to them, but I’d love to hear if anyone has had similar issues or gotten them to work!

Cheers!

Obviously this could apply to other aftertouch compatible midi keyboards, just wondering if it’s possible!

I’ve used the MPE Push 3 to control the MF and it works well with the Push’s pressure.

Glad to hear! I’ll do a test later to see if it ends up working out. The post I was referencing was saying that the sensitivity of the aftertouch on the Launchpad was reaaally sensitive so I’ll record my findings here. Thanks for the reply!

I just set this up and it works as expected.

I can only think that maybe they got tripped up because they tried to use a 3.5mm cable directly between the devices when the Launchpad Pro Mk3 uses MIDI Type-A and the MicroFreak uses Type-B. You need to use the included adapters.

I believe there were patches to fix launchpad pro mk3 aftertouch issues, make sure you are running updated firmware!

Yes it worked perfectly with both 3.5mm cables from each device! Just had to mess around with the aftertouch settings on the LPP and MF so it fits my play-style. Thanks so much!
